It took me three DFI boards dying to realize that DFI boards are junk. I didn't even RMA that last one because I was so disgusted with DFI. You'll be seeing a lot of these post soon.
AMD Opteron 170 0536 @ 2.6GHz, 1.5v

WD 160 GB SATA HD
OCZ 600w PowerStream
ViewSonic VP171B-2 LCD
Friends don't let friends buy DFI!
Well, that was really relieving :| Has the DFI mobos yet killed any components other than PSUs?

If conrad.maranan used Bios 2.09 , i think that is the problem
Bios 2.09 makes me crazy , sometime it stop in boot screen , and i got less 4-5Mhz then ocing , so i flashed back bios 2.01 , and seems fine now
But when AG and RGones boards died they weren't using 2.09, were they?

Mmm, strange enough there are more peope with this problem.
My Ultra-D died a week ago, and the motherboard worked just fine, for a couple of houres ( 14 houres .. ).
I RMA't my motherboard, and now i got a new board with another Rev. Let's hope this one will last longer![]()

Very disapionting..
Kinda scary with some of these dead boards. Hopefully they are just isolated incidents maybe related to overclocking... I'm keeping mine at stock for a bit until I can find out more about why some of these boards are dying. Everything is fine so far over here though... I've had the board for 4 days now.

Wtf the DFI reps "arnt allowed to talk about it"? Sounds like a load of crap to me. I'm having serious second thoughs about this board now.
Same here, even though it's kinda too late for me now...

The bottom line is that I'm 100 EURO out of pocket .
I am not poor by any means but I'm far from rich, If I was I'm sure I would buy DFI boards by the dozen. (baker's dozen!)

The SLI-DR killed one stick of my OCZ PC4000 2x512 Gold Rev 2 Kit....And it was at ther default settings when it kicked off. The highest voltage I tried on it was 3.2V with a fan blowing across it, and I only attempted to boot it once at that voltage and it worked at normal SPD timings and votlages for a day after that, came home from work and tried to boot it up and it was dead...Strange that it worked fine at 7AM and would not turn boot again at 4PM...One stick died and OCZ has a new kit being sent to me now. But I have some Gskill TCCD I got from Newegg today to try...

If anything, I would at least hold out on any hardmods to the board for a while (if it was me at least). At least if it goes pop outa no where and theres nothing done to it you can RMA.
Their boards were the PR ones before the around 20 hardware fixes were implemented. Thus, the deaths of both AG's and RGone's boards helped DFI to develop the fixes so that retail boards run more reliably. Now why the retail ones still keep dying, that's an unanswered question, of course...Originally Posted by bito

My board is running pretty fine... except it suddenly lost memtest stability at the settings where it was 10+ hours stable. But I flashed to the 09/02 bios tonight and the memtest stability is back. We'll see what happens in 2 days, though... Too bad my cpu is such a crap it doesn't allow me to experience the full potential of this DFI baby.
away & gone
Agreed.Originally Posted by madgamer
I've been looking around and it seems that the nf4 chipset runs quite hot, mostly because of the crappioso thermal paste, and someone on dfi-street said that by replacing the stock thermal paste with AS5, he managed to get the temperature down to 35c from 55c. Don't know about that, but the heat may be a problem, and it's certainly not healthy to the chip. Can the problems/dead mobos be a result of this maybe? Either way if you're planning on removing the stock thermal paste to replace it, be careful as there's a foam shim that's kinda fragile.
Angry_Games stated that replacing the stock chipset cooler and paste would not void the warrantry![]()

I was using the 01/25 BIOS. I tried the Beta BIOS that OPB posted up, but my clocks were lower. So I reverted back to 1/25, which is the BIOS my board shipped with.
Let's keep in mind that my CMOS was reset, so everything was set to AUTO. I never install operating systems overclocked. Several hours prior to plugging in the IDE drive and formatting it, I set some 3D records with my 6600 Non-GT card. Everything was good and dandy until S.M.D.S kicked in.
I disconnected everything and packed in up in its box last night. What I'm going to do after I eat lunch is give the board one more shot. I'm hoping the OC gods will resurrect my board to save me the trouble of having to ship it back. I'll post my results shortly thereafter.
Well good luck Conrad. Keep us posted.

I had a very similar thing happen to me. I was cruising along at 300HTT 1:1 with OCX 3200 rev 2 and my 3000+. Prime stable for a couple hours. I decided to try for 310 and when I booted, nothing.... black just like you describe. Reset everything and nothing. CMOS, pulled battery, reseat RAM everything.
I then reset to default and recut with XP and now everything is working again.
Try recutting with sata drive. Seemed too wierd for me but recutting worked.

imo...runnin 4v on vdimm got something to do with those pmw ic and mosfets....probly high temps??
Just what exactly is recutting?Originally Posted by musk
I tried using only my SATA drive again (by itself) and it's a no go.
There is absolutely nothing in my power that will bring this board back to life. I plugged it back in, prayed, and nothing. I've got it packed up with an RMA number and it's heading back to Newegg for a replacement.
Something in the back of my mind tells me that the adjustable VDIMM jumper has something to do with this. Perhaps the design is flawed. Anyway, I'm just going to stick to using my good ol' Booster when I receive the replacement board.
conrad, this is a little off topic but you did know that sata is hot swapable. I do it all the time where i unplug a sata drive and plug in another. its great for when you are setting up a new system so that the drives arnt recognized and windows doesnt try installing on them and then you can just go and plug it in after the system is booted up without problems. just make sure its naitive sata. i tried it on my ata drive with an sata converter and the system crashed.
