Is this possible, 2 dead cpu's

Ok, I get my new DFI LP 754 board in today, installation went very smooth. I installed my 3700+ first and board refused to post, double checked everything with same results. Threw in my 3200+ and it posted. Left bios at default and went ahead and flashed to the newest bios. Flashed went smooth and went to 10x250 easy. Went for 10x260 and froze half way thru post, tried to reboot, board powers up but no post. Dam, cleared cmos, unplug powercord, tried everything in my power and still no post.

Screw it, take out DFI and tossed my MSI K8N Neo-FSR back in and same problem, powers up but no post, just praying for my keyboard to light up but not so. Tried both chips with same results.

So I know both these chips worked flawlessly on my MSI. Is it possible the DFI board killed both my CPU's? Man sounds like a big long shot if ya ask me. Both IHS have been removed off my cpu's. No signs of cracked cores on either as I'm very careful about mounting my waterblock on them.

I guess I need to get my hands on another chip and try like hell to get my heatspreaders back on.

    Such is life.

get rid of the DFI...it was going to be a good board but this doesn't seem like a good one...wait a little while...maybe a new rev. will come out that is better.

Mine is running fine now, just needed a newer BIOS. Sometimes it doesn't boot up though, always boots second time.

Post some system specs. I dought that the Board killed the CPU's.
Almost seems like a Power supply issue.

    Try it out of case.

ok, specs in sig. Tried new Coolmax 500wt PS, AGP card and ram stick with same results.

Question, will the board even power up with a dead cpu?

Well I had a dead XP2500 on a LB-B and the board would powerup all the fans started, but there was no post Beep.

    So it could be Possiable.

it seems really strange that you would have 2 dead CPU's all of a suddon. You said they both worked before the DFI arrived??

If you have the MSI board and you where just using it I would work on getting it up and running to varify that the componets are working then start on the DFI again.

Update, both cpu's are dead. Just tried both on my friends MSI 8KN Neo and no post, beeps, nothing.

I have no idea how this could of happened. Both work perfect on my MSI Neo until I tried the DFI.
Gotta see if AMD will help me out, though I think the 3200+ is still under warranty thru Newegg, we need to check.

Anyone here had to send their cpu back to AMD and had to reinstall the IHS before returning? The 3200+ the heatspreader is still on while the 3700+ is off.

    This totally blows.

Nope, the 3700+ was the first to go in, even cleared cmos before booting up. Never posted, thru in the 3200+ finally posted after the 3rd attempt. Set bios to default settng and flashed to the newest bios. Everything seemed ok so I attempted OC at 10x250 voltages at default settings since I know my chip and ram could do that on my MSI. No problems hitting that so then I went for 10x260, upped the vcore to 1.55 and vdimm at 2.75, chipset left at 1.6v. Bootup froze right at windows prompt. Reset my pc and never booted again. I know I had good connection between my block and chip as temp was around 36c plus I always double check before booting.

Whats funny is the 3700+ never had a chance just wondering if something in the circuitry on the board killed the memory controller on both chips. I know it sounds like a long shot but I've been doing this way to long to know I caused a cpu death by crushing the core. Like I said the 3200+ still has the IHS installed and my core on the 3700+ looks perfect.

Maybe I should get in touch with someone at DFI. Does anyone know Oscar(?) email addy?

DO NOT buy DFI products they suck!!!
Great o/c potential but always ending with corrupted bios, sudden death mobos now they are cpu killers as well?
Thank God i never bought one even though i thought about it due to its o/cing abilities.

Sorry Racer, they're not helping out much there. I only recently posted there and they seemed like they'd be helpful, more along the lines of the OCZ forums. However, I was disapointed by the responses I got to my questions; seems like they're all trying to sell you something. I was even more disapointed by the responses to your post.

    Forget them.

Thanks for the link anyways, not your fault. I should of known DFI wouldn't be so supportive. No motherboard maker would ever admit their boards could actually kill cpu's.

Hoping Newegg will be more understanding.
