    Neither did I....its either
    A.) Newegg messed up
    B.) AMD is fixing their model numbers.

    The processor in the pic says:
    ADA3400DEP4AZ
    CBAUC 0432RPOW

    in case that helps. Anyone know how to tell if this is a S939 or S754 chip?

    no, the first 90nm-CPUs will be all S.939 - 3000+ / 3200+ / 3500+

    but newegg mixed up, because the OPN would be a S.939-CPU

    It does have a D. So could AMD be fixing their model numbers?

    The difference on the 3400+ is 800HTT vs 1000 on the 3500+. The only place i've seen this was on a product roadmap somewhere.
    They were talking about it for awhile at OC's forums but i don't think they ever caught on to what the difference was.

    Wouldn't a 3400+ be running @ 2.2Ghz instead of 2.4? The 3800+ is 2.4Ghz right?

    that would make kinda sense, and the 3500 would stay 130nm

    hmm, is it possibly a cheaper alternative to a 3500+ without dual channel? sop basically a 754 3400+ but just with the right pin ou tso upgrading cpu is easier?

    Failed 3500+ with one faulty mem controller? Thats of course guessing how it gets that speed rating. its the only thing i can think of really.

    Yep, and I doubt that that extra HTT is worth the extra 100 point rating.

    OK...I need to point this out.
    the 3500 only should have gotten a 3400 speed rating.
    So AMD could be making 90nm 3400 S939 chips.
    The Hypertransport bus is limited by the board not the chip. Those chips can 1600/2000 HT speeds, there just isn't the boards that can do that.

    yea, and i believe the 3800+ should be 3600+/3700+, and the 4000+ should be 3800+... caus i dunno if a 2.4ghz a64 is gonna keep up with a 4ghz p4... 1.6ghz might stick it to the a64 in this case...

    3500=3400
    3800=3600
    4000=3700-3800
    FX-55= 3900-4000.
    that what I think.

    http://www.c627627.com/AMD/Athlon64/

    that really puts it into perspective. there is a 3400+ thats 2.4ghz. theres a 4000+ thats 2.4ghz. thats a difference of 600+, for SC -> DC ram, and an extra 512mb L2 cache... not happening...

    another thing to look at, the s939 3400+/3500+ block... the next one down is a 3800+ block... that just doesnt flow with the rest of the chart... having only 200+ incriments...

    i'd like to see a big arsed cpu round up with every single variant of the A64's(not semprons), plus comparable P4 cpu's in a variety of tests, to see how they really compare...
