If this is the platform, you can forget about putting Hawaii inside. This thing has like no breathing room for the GPU. A 290 series would either run at 100% fan or throttle so badly, it would perform like crap. It a surprise they can even put titan inside.
    Core i7 920@ 4.66ghz(H2O)
    6gb OCZ platinum
    4870x2 + 4890 in Trifire
    2*640 WD Blacks
    750GB Seagate.

Well case is what I expected, they use a itx board with a raiser for the card and a sfx psu. The most interesting part is the shroud around the cooler for the cpu.

The Steam Box will never be for sale commercially. As it says in the article these are for the Steam beta testers only.

I thought its going to be sold next year sometime.

Although this is a protoype, the box steam sells next years should look somewhat similar.

I hope the shipping versions have the option to turn off that light. I like the dark and having what looks like a torch staring at me will not be helpful.

There is plenty of room, especially if the GPU side of the case has vents. Hot exhaust exhausts right out the back, cool air drawn in through the sides. The CPU exhausts its heat through the other side with that weird shroud. The internal temperatures of the machine should be quite low.

Edit: Found the motherboard they're using: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157374

    From the article.

Take a good hard look at Valve's Steam Machine, because it's the last time you'll see it. Er, something like that. Only 300 of the metal beast above will ship to beta testers, and then Valve says it's cutting off its own supply of Steam Machines. "We're really building this as a test platform, and there are many machines that are gonna be made by third-parties. They're the ones that will be available commercially in 2014," Valve designer Greg Coomer told Engadget.

That's too bad. I liked the look and the modularity of such a small platform. It might be good for 2015.

It is a reference design only.
Valve will never sell that particular hardware.
3rd parties will be free to deviate from the physical design Valve is sending out to beta testers.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see whether it becomes more user-friendly in the process.

So for those of you wondering about AAA games, Football Manager 2014 was released 2 weeks ago, Metro: Last Light was released this week. Total War : Rome 2 was announced by Valve and The Creative Assembly as being ported and Topware Interactive mentioned they are porting Two Worlds 2 and are looking at porting more games from their backcatalog.
Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start
for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was cancer of the heart
