Final GIGABYTE X79 Boards with Digital PWM's Pictured!

It seems that GIGABYTE has done a final revision change on their whole X79 lineup, as the boards we saw at IDF 2011 are not going to be those sold in stores, the presentation below showcases the new boards as well as some new technology. GIGABYTE calls it 3-Way Digital Power, 1 CPU Digital PWM, and 2 Memory Digital PWMs.


We have come across a presentation showing GIGABYTE's final X79 lineup, with some changes including the use of International Rectifier Digital PWM’s. The PWMs in the picture do notseem to be on IR’s website, as they are most likely based upon Chil’s Digital PWM technology, as IR now owns Chil. IR recently acquired Chil Semiconductor, the maker of most of ASUS, ASRock, and Intel Digital PWM’s. Now it seems that GIGABYTE has acquired IR/Chil’s newest PWM technology as these controllers seem to be VRD12 and VRD 12.5 certified. Let’s hope other vendors have acquired the same updated PWMs on their X79 boards. Digital PWMs are used not only the CPU, but memory power as well. GIGABYTE is now using Digital PWMs on their X79 boards as far as we can tell. Take a look for yourself.

I see that all of the boards are lacking SATA ports. On first photos, there was more SATA ports on UD7 and UD5, too bad they removed it. Maybe they are planing UD9?

There's 10 SATA ports on the UD5 and UD7. 8 on the UD3.

Yes, but if you take a look on "old" revisions, all of them had much more SATA ports, even Assassin 2. Don't know why they removed it :S but UD5 and 7 looks very promising

IIRC (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) but the reason the final revision boards from EVERY company so far has had fewer SATA than the original boards shown off was due to an "issue" with the SAS/SATA SCU that controlled the additional 4 SATA ports

The UD7 and UD5 looks nice, don't like the Assassin 2 board because of that stupid gun heatsink, and 4 DIMM slots just isn't worth it either. Wish Gigabyte slapped dual LAN on the UD5 and UD7, why are they cutting features I don't know.

Extra power for multiple video cards configurationts. They are quite useful placed that way

yeah their board designs don't make sense. it is like there is no high and low end. they are all just different. the ones you would expect to be high end are actually missing features that the low end have.

those look exactly like SAS connectors. I see that EVGA is doing sas on the sr3, maybe these are sas as well? Patsburg supposed to be UBER with sasness.
