Man after alot of testing today is a great day, I found the problem with freezing using the Intel controller.
Something so stupid I can't understand why, anyways this is what fixed the problem & I hope it will help others.

Raja, could you run at those settings at ~5GHz, +/-?

I just got this chip so am not looking to flail it as I need it to last. If you have a set of Hypers have a look and see if you can pass with the CPU low (@stock), if not I guess there's no need to look further just yet. Just working on a few things here with various memory sticks before I OC to about 4.5GHz tops as I want to use S3 on this rig.

I had kit that could run 2133MHz on 4.5GHz, but on 5GHz no way, then I got GTX2 and 5.6 is no problem with 2133 memory... Exact same kit was fine on other board with same cpu

To me this says that you need to be running the GTX2.

Many thanx to “Raja@ASUS” for his input to this thread and especially for this guide………………….

    Offset Voltage:
    http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showth...U-Core-Voltage

Reduced my second chips’ 5GHz Vcore in Prime Blend from about 1.49v to 1.44v using an offset of +0.100. I can use +0.060 to run 20+ LinX.
I know, it’s no record and doesn’t seem much on paper but……….. when every millivolt counts.

Just a few comments. I’m not making any statements…………….

I’m really happy with this MIVE board. The BIOS (1485 for me atm) setup is a bit tricky for this casual ocker to grasp but checking XS and "asusrog" forums enabled me to progress. I use “Load Extreme OC Profile” to take care of the repetitive key functions needed to start the overclocking process and the settings I need to change are not too mind warping (don’t mention the “Skews”). Monitoring different outputs with my DMM is a bonus as well.

A few posters (various threads) seem to have no luck getting their SB’s over 5GHz. I am certainly no expert but the 4 cpu’s I had access to all clocked past 5.3GHz (different batches and e-tailers) . I know that many others have had better cpu's but I’m wondering if it is the stability of supply at high current values that holds other ppl back. A good quality PSU with good reviews emphasizing the stability of the 3.33v, 5v, and 12v steady states and their ability to hold up under high current stress might be a factor. I’m not promoting any particular make but good reviews emphasizing stability at high cpu loads (plus other device loads) has got to be important.

I'm not sure lapping the cpu has much effect. Again, just an opinion, but I lapped a 5.4GHz wall cpu and the wall changed to................exactly the same, 5.4GHz. Temps seemed lower but the wall did not shift.

Glad things are working for you. The skew stuff only comes into play when pushing for max memory clocks. I've got some tips for increasing BCLK and will probably add an addendum to the clock skew post at some point.

I have an SS to hand and SB stories with low temps are not overwhelming (look out Kitfit, for the tales of woe ) but I was wondering............

I know that this is the wrong thread for SS but my question relates to the "LN2 enable" and "Skew" inputs. Do I need to work on these settings with SS? If so, what are the important insights to get going in this area (besides putting the LN2 switch to "enable" of course )

LN2 enable - you can try this if the board/CPU does not POST, it may help.

Skews and differential clock voltage will only come into play if you wish to extend your max BCLK/memory frequency. I'll post some stuff in the clock skew thread tomorrow if Shamino hasn't already covered it in his guide.

I just received this board but it looks as if it has been used.
4 of the SATA cables and the bluetooth board are not in any packaging. Also the screw holes for screwing the board onto the standoffs are worn with 1 of them worn past the PCB.
I have contacted the retailer but will not know until tomorrow if they will do anything.
If they don't exchange the board, I will be refunding the rest of my £2800 build and going elsewhere.

Contact BBB if there in your area, can't sell referb in place of retail.

Barso u're not the only buyer who received this kind of revamped board during the 1-to-1 B3 swap program by Asus.
Suspect the "replacement" board on ur hand right now is actually ur last B2 board.
Asus just replaced the chipset from B2 to B3 without touching other components etc and send back to u without care of any scratch, dirty heatsink, missing accessories and bent pins on the board. They just want to make it as fast as possible and end this SATA issue.
I ended up mine by getting full refund instead of another revived board. That was after some arguement with Asus product manager.

I just picked up this board and been messing around with it for a little while. Was wondering if it was normal if it shuts down and then powers up shortly after whenever you reboot? Things like resetting within windows, hitting the reset button on my case, and saving while in the BIOS cause it to do that. When I had it stock and was installing windows it didn't do it, but after trying my hands at getting it past stock it started doing it. All I changed were things like disabling the Marvel and JM controller, DIMM and CPU voltage.

    BIOS version is 1303.

BCLK is bound to PCIe frequency on this platform. The more capacitively you load the bus, the greater the impact on BCLK scaling and need for skew adjustments.
