I don't think my stock Asus would get 950Mhz benchable with 1.150V. Everytime I tried, even with ambient temp. quite cold I got a freeze after about 30sec.. Never tried with more voltage BTW.
Anyway for daily use it needs 1.075V for 851-1702/1456 (I mean GPU-Tool artifact test rock solid).

that's nice ...
(why did u change mygif? )
I confirm the reply to topic question is: "not necessarily".
With stock cooler I cannot bench, even with fan @85%, neither @931-1862-4204Mhz. I launch 3DMark11, first test OK, in the middle of the second istant freeze, even with 1.175V. A very strange behaviour seeing that I see no artifacts on screen.
I'll try with ~1.2V.

be carefull, your vga is not liquid cooled (1.2v on air cooling isn't so safe)

I got my Vanilla EVGA GTX 580 yesterday it runs at a default voltage of 1.0125. I'm about to start the process of testing the overclocks, I would like to determine opinions based on tools used to test artifacts. I'm leaning towards using GPU-Tool however I noticed that it mixed up core and shader clock readings. How reliable is the auto "find max" function?
Based on the adjustments options available with the tools available to me it doesn't seem necessary to flash my BIOS. Is it absolutely necessary to flash my BIOS to attain higher OCs?

usually if driver reset is like the voltage is not enough, but some times it does the same when memory speed doesnt match with the gpu speed.
1.012vid is a good vid, you sould be able to get 950mhz with 1.138, this on stock cooling, but you have to try step by step, first of all push to the max your gpu with stock voltage,(vantage ppu on loops, 3dm011 loops, heaven 2.1/2.5 loops OCCT GPU/MEM tool .. & so on) when u found that, start rising up the gpu speed until you get the max speed with max voltage, with an eye on temps, but be sure to match gpu speed with a correct memory speed.

hey don't worry!
900mhz on stock cooling for 24/7 use should be fine and safe ^^
temperatures with 900mhz and stock cooling shouldn't go beyond 55/60 C°

Thus far 875/1750/2004 tested stable at stock voltages (1.0125) and fan at 65%. Stability was tested using a 1hr OCCT GPU Test at 1024*768, I'll continue to test its stability via 3dmark vantage
I'll start posting with screenshots when I achieve something noteworthy.

sure? O_o i i was getting those temps while i was on stock c. 900mhz with 1.025v and 70% fan ..... but i do not have no more screens to proove that, anyway ... temps are not a issue , remaining on 900mhz speed, with 1.025voltages , since is near to stock, but i'm talkin about Paradoxx and my vga, not yours, 1.088vid![]()
that's nice, 875mhz with stock voltage isn't so far from my stock!
![]()
what's max voltage? 1.150v?
Its more like the ambient temps that matter over 1.025v vs 1.088v, on my end theres barely any difference in temps from 1.000 to 1.088v at 850Mhz with a fixed 63% fan speed, I think its only 2c at best.
Using synthetic tests like 3dmark or heaven2.5 is not a clear indication of stability for my card as I can run 950Mhz @ 1.088v all day long and on the next day the first run would show a rendering glitch which happens so rare, so yeah I can say my card is stable at 1.088v @ 950Mhz core depending on what we are testing it at.

Ive said it before, low VID is not a guarantee of a high clocking card. Just what it needs for stock speed and a bit over. Scaling is always different, just like with CPU's. Some are low VID but stop scaling early, some are higher VID but scale right up.
Would be a good idea to move the general GTX580 discussion over to the GTX580 oveclocking thread. This thread was about 1.025 VID cards overclocking investigation and its well and truly way off topic and I think best left alone now unless someone has more VID vs clocks related info.
