    GTS 250 Graphical problems

My gts 250 has been experiencing graphical problems and freezes on the win xp login screen and the picture is really pixelated. This only happens if the Nvidia drivers are installed. I have tried 2 different versions of drivers and a fresh install of windows xp. I have also tried both pcie slots. There was a 8800 gt in it previously but it started having red lines. I think its a hardware issue with the card. Its a BFG so i cant get support. Could i bake the card to fix it?

I'm not convinced it's the card. Is your XP fully updated and DX too? XP has received sketchier update support since W7 hit big. I'm on W7 64 bit with a GTS 250 and have had no issues, and that's via lazily overwriting driver updates vs uninstalling the old ones.

Tried to run a Linux Mint Live CD but it has black lines across the screen so that narrows it down to either graphics card or mobo right?

clean the heatsink, found that works most of the time for G92 hardware.

Just ordered some mx-2 to use on the graphics cards when i remove the heatsink. Its only $4.99 on mwave with free shipping but its gonna take 7-10 days to arrive Im praying its not the motherboard because its an am2 machine and if the mobo is dead I might as well get sandy bridge but that means I would need new RAM as well and money is tight right now I'll post the results of the testing and cleaning of the graphics cards after the thermal paste arrives.

+1 for removing the HSF, cleaning it and applying new TIM. It'll also be worth cleaning the PCI-E connections of that GTS250 with a soft rubber.

You need fo run your card in another system, because it's not clear what is broken system board or graphics card. If you haven't any chance to do it, try to install fresh OS, but if you steal get this issue it will only say, that something broken.

I'm waiting for the TIM to arrive it should take about a week. I removed the heatsinks on both cards. One of the wires on the fan connector of the 8800 GTX snapped off so I had to mess with it to get it connected again. Hopefully the fan will work. Should I take apart the heatsinks and clean the inside of them as well?
