Intel Soda Creek 310 mSATA sighted on newegg:

Can't wait for March 1st. 510 where art thou?

BTW, looking at spec differences between 510 and G3, if their controllers and NAND have the same latency it seems that G3 will be faster at 4K QD1 with 50K IOPs vs 510 with 40K IOPs, right? 510 looks faster in sequential benchmarks...

So, based on preliminary information that johnw presented in his post http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...4&postcount=28 it looks like Vertex 3 is the one to have this cycle. We are missing proper results of 8K random performance (IOMeter database profile) since new 25nm generation of SSDs is based on 8K page size.

    #1 Vertex 3 (paper launch)
    #2 Micron/Crucial C300 (available now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...l%20Technology)
    #3 Micron C400/Crucial M4 (available now: http://www.superbiiz.com/query.php?categry=0&s=c400)
    #4 Intel 510 (available now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...CE&PageSize=20)

Ya, Vertex 3 seems to be the best this year. Getting two 120GB for Raid 0.

The pre-release Vertex 3 looks to have excellent performance compared to the others. But we do not yet have a standard release version of the Vertex 3, nor do we have the Sandforce 2XXX drives from G.Skill, Corsair, Patriot.

Personally, I'd never buy an OCZ drive, and I am waiting to see the Sandforce 2XXX drives from the other manufacturers.

But even if you do not feel that way, I suggest holding off on the Vertex 3 until you can see good benchmarks of an actual shipping Vertex 3 before making any final decisions. Just in case OCZ pulled something funny with the pre-release versions.

Oh, I totally agree with you. My trigger finger is not itching especially after reading hIOmon thread. Totally want to see production drives extensively tested including 8Kb patterns.

Curious, what is your personal reason to avoid OCZ? I did have sour after taste being early adopter of Core 1, V1 with their firmware issues...

OCZ has a history of deceiving their customers, of which changing the internals of their SSDs without indicating it to customers is only the latest deception.

I have heard of a number of cases where OCZ's handling of RMA requests was foolish and disrespectful to customers.

And the people on OCZ's support forum have repeatedly written things that strike me as dishonest, manipulative, and disrespectful.

You can take a single piece of evidence out of context and dismiss it like that. The problem is that OCZ presents a continuing pattern of deception and disrespect, in all areas, for a long time. That is not easily dismissed.

It’s been interesting to watch the OCZ business model and the PR machine otherwise known as the OCZ forum. (That reaches out well beyond the forum).

As long as they have a continual stream of new high performance offerings they can do what they want and they know it.

I searched around and I could not find much negative press for OCZ. Could you be more specific why they are a "bad" company? Just curious as all of the review sites have nothing but good to say about their Vertex 3 which seems to be the SSD to beat.

given that my only major concern is gaming performance, is going vertex 3 or m4 (128GB model, can't afford the 256) going to make any real difference?

Well I have to agree with johnw on this one I just do not trust OCZ period. Well to start they have strung be along with my rebates on almost everything I bought from them. I keep copies of everything when I first get the product I cut out bar codes etc. And yes after 15 items purchased from PSU, memory, and SSD's I received my first one. I also feel there forum crew are rude, and if you do not agree with them they will PM you on warning on BANNING etc.. Sorry I am the freaking customer buying your product I do not need to take that crap. But on a better note I do see there forum starting to get more organized and there SSD's are getting better. Back on topic I will buy a OCZ Vertex 3 when it comes out but that is the only product I will buy.
