    4K Random QD1 Champs

OK, so I know that Fusion-IO has awesome 4K random read numbers at QD1. What is the next best thing (SSD+controller)? I saw Arc-1880 pushing ~200MB/s with 4K in AS SSD and CDM at QD1. What kind and how many SSD's the one would need to achieve this? Would Arc-1880i or 9260-4i+FP achieve that level of performance?

    Cheers

The 200mb/s numbers are cache. I think Arc1880 + C300s would be the best bet for QD1 4kb reads. I don't know why you'd get that over the iodrive though if you are looking for QD1 randoms (edit: nevermind. No more iodrives on ebay). Iodrive pulls 92mb/s and I have not seen anything else pull over 50mb/s so it is not even close really.

edit: oops I completely forgot about ACARDs. Those are similar to IOdrive.

Gotcha. Set CDM to run test over the cache size and 4K QD1 will drop to the performance level of the single SSD attached to the controller. Sad that Fusion IO folks can't make it bootable...

yeah maybe that is because it would only call on one disk to fill that request? if the access is 4k and the smallest stripe size is 4k...

there might be a new champ very soon btw...

Too bad new crop of SSDs is neglecting 4K performance improvements. Still in the range of 20MB/s at QD1. I don't know why Anand shows 4K at QD3 in his benching...

What drive is it? 36Mb/s at QD1 looks good.

Although a great result it's not valid!

The 0-Fill option basically means 100% compressible data.
Could you do a run without that option?

    Praz,

I'd say that the result looks good but that 100MB testsize is a tad low

I'll make sure to test the Vertex 3 on my AMD MB as well, it is looking good at QD1 using small block-sizes.

Very nice results...Do you happen to have same test in Sata II connection, for satisfaction of the SB750 owners ?

100MB is all I ever use for my own reference. If I would have known I'd be posting these screenshots I would have went with 1000MB.

SATA II results. Same setup as SATA III screenshot. Only Secure Erased the drive and switch the SB850 to SATA II.

Excellent results in Sata II too....Thank you, Praz

I just hope that 120GB Version does not have dramatically drop of performance...

How about an AS-SSD on the Vertex 3?

So with underwhelming 25nm SSD drives 4K performance my hope for new champs goes away. We are still looking at Fuion-IO, ACARD and C300 as the fastest 4K performers at QD1, am I correct?

Seems like it. If you have the money, just get ACARDs and an 1880 and be done with it. No SATA SSD is going to come close, possibly ever with the way Flash is going.

What about the new sandforce controller? Don't no body tell me the next gen SSD's are going to be slower than my Intel G2? What the eff.

They aren't slower than your G2 intel, they're faster.

510, M4 are on par with G2, Vertex 2 slower than C300 in 4K, but faster in sequential large read and write.

In games you will see 100-200Mb/s max sequential read. High sequential performance while sacrificing 4K is pointless.

Vertex 3 ES seems to be faster across the board. We have to see retail FW and its performance.

Are those screenys accurate using those 4k speeds? fastest ive seen, c400 is a dissapointment!

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?
