I have a bit mixed feelings about this. I don't like how PC gamers will get the blame for piracy acts yet again but then I don't like how all games seem to get more and more attention for consoles either. Either way PC gaming community have more to lose on this than EA, hopefully PC gamers will still buy this game so we don't have to hear even more whining.

I sometimes wonder if Crytek did this on purpose so they can blame the PC gamers for piracy so they have a good reason to not even release a PC version next time
    .
This is what I worry about. The leak is a not a "PC" or platform issue but an EA internal security issue yet there are people that will use this as an excuse to keep the PC as red headed stepchild platform.

Also, I see all these console exclusives leaked prior to retail launch yet have not found news sites making a bid deal out it except for COD:BO, but instead they castrate the PC platform over the downloads of retail games... Such hypocrisy...

After seeing the Crysis 2 multiplayer video, I am going to get it on Steam since KB+M will own all those joypad wielding players.

the game will probably be delayed because of the leaked drm keys, seen a lot of file sharing people saying they'll support Crytek on this one

mine is already on pre order :p

If these pirates would quit being dicks and stealing everything, maybe normal consumers like myself and others could enjoy a game in peace instead of having to face ever more draconian DRM technologies. Stunts just like this one are what cause a publisher to demand more aggressive DRM in future developments. These pirates are the problem not just for publishers but for us, the regular consumers, as well.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

to be fair, the HL2 leaked alpha was remarkably useless. it had like 0 actual content.

E: If I were crytek and I got a few million downloads on this leaked beta, I'd be exstatic. Assuming it's not terrible... there's no sense of giving out free samples of a bad product. No-one will ever buy it after that.

Imagine you own a fruit stand, and you find that a few people would rather steal your apples than pay for them. Your solution: you inject all apples with a deadly neurotoxin, and give all paying customers an antidote, which has a fairly high (but less than 100%) success rate.

Do you think this a reasonable solution?

I'll admit I torrent but also that if I didn't I would not "own" as many legit coppies of games as I do. I recently purchased Mass Effect AND Mass Effect 2 because I liked the torrent'd ones that much that I wanted the DLC content, support if I have a problem and just the ease of instalation and updating without having to worry about an update borking a pirated copy.

I phsically own almost 50 PC games and if I didn't "extended demo" most of them first I would honestly only own maybe 10? I'm not saying I went out and bought them all at full retail but if I didn't know the games were worth it I wouldn't even spend the $10 - $30 I do for the games. If the game isn't worth my money I'm not going to risk my money to find out, especially when demo's are becoming fewer and far between and more than ever they strip the absolute best out of demo's so what may seem like an average or sucky game is only so because they took the worthwhile stuff out and people are basing thier buying decision off of that.

Hell, if I didn't torrent I'd still be using a pirated Vista OS but instead I paid $100 for a W7 upgrade and used the last legit OS I owned, my XP. Hell, if W7 wasn't so fn awesome Micro could have kissed my arse but I didn't want my PC to lose this OS as it's absolutely perfect for my current useage whereas with Vista, it was better than XP but not good enough to justify the fundies :P

What in my post makes you think I like DRM? I hate the crap out of it and that is the entire point of everything I said. Pirates are making the situation worse because we have to suffer through this crap because of them.

Would you say that it's an accurate reproduction of New York city?
At least as far as we've seen.

My point is that the DRM-pushing publishers are acting unreasonably. There were people who tried to steal things before the first civilizations invented the concept of ownership, and somehow commerce thrived. Also, somehow, without anything resembling DRM schemes.

Also, I think both FarCry and Crysis 1 had a leak of an early version before release, and both have sold well.

Lightning strikes thrice? Or maybe this is a "leak", and they want you to torrent it. If I were Crytek and I was confident in Crysis 2, I know I would.

I'm gonna get it and see what it's like without all the fancy visuals.

I have said it before, and I'll say it again:

Some people might use this as an excuse, and honestly get the pirate copy, then buy a legit copy when it's out and copy over the saves if compatible. Also, the American copies more often than not are uncut, and others aren't which is why some people import games, but then they will have to wait even longer. Country's and the industry are screwing legit users for the worse. Piracy isn't stealing, stealing is removing the original, piracy is making a copy. Bad or not, people are, have and always will pirate. Rationalization to oneself is sometimes more important than a sense of justice and 'moral standing' etcetera. If people want something so badly, and due to circumstance the only way they can get it is by pirating, then so be it. Personally don't care one way or the other.

It looks like a quite good game but way too short. At least DNF according to the creators has like 16~17hrs of singleplayer which had been nothing special back in the days (if not a bit on the short side) but for a FPS game of modern day exceptionally great unfortunately...

When graphics gets better it seems the games only get shorter and shorter in average as it takes so much longer to design good environments and graphics for a game that has to look greater which makes ofc only sense. You can't just slap on some fancy textures on very squarish looking objects anymore and artists need more and more time to create great results too. It's no rocket science why graphics has taken more space away from gameplay these days.

That little inkling of respect that I might have had for you is now gone.

I hope someone comes and steals your computer just to show you how it feels to have something taken from you. Devs feed their families based on revenue produced by these games. They also use the revenue to make more games. They aren't doing this so that you can mindlessly take their hard work and use it for your own personal pleasure without paying the price that is put on the product.

Anyway, thanks for admitting your problem. When Crysis 3 doesn't ship for PC, I'll know who to thank, you piece of .

Now, I refuse to pirate anything. I did however watch the videos, and for the first time in a long time since Mass Effect 2 and Bad Company 2, I'm genuinely excited about this game. It looks great, even if it is on medium settings. If the retail version with very high settings looks like I think it's going to, this game will look absolutely stunning. Remember that the minimum requirements for both CPU and GPU are higher than the original Crysis. There's no reason to believe that this game will be anything less than great.
