There is a code on the cpu that will tell you if its unlockable or not. The middle C in the code "CACAY" means I have a Deneb and it unlocks... no probs.. xxDxx means Propus and has no L3 cache...

The cpu support list on your mobo's site will tell you which bios version you need. gl !

Yes, that CPU is a gem. Now show us some 1800 6-8-6 Because my retail 965BE and 565BE sample both do 1800-1845 stable on Elpida Hyper...probably closer to 1900 with PSC like you've got.

We both know this board was designed for 1666 and tight timing ram. We also know ram speed makes very little performance difference unless your benching and even then not much. Plus this is a 84.00 cpu and 80.00 motherboard so there we have it. Not really a fair comparison. This is not a high performance rig ,just a very good value gaming system.

Not designed for 1666 and tight timing ram huh? Timings dont have any effect on the board as far as clocks, only the IMC. 1666 CAS 9 and CAS 5 are the same on the board. (1600+ cas 5 is good stuff )
I told you my 565 sample does 1800+ didnt I? The 555 isn't much different.

My 965 did 1790 with Hypers on my 890GX-UD3H, that clocks ram about the same as the UD4P so I'd like to see at least 1700.

While PSC can do 2000-2100 stable on 890FX Hyper won't even get past 1900...on 790 series that goes 1800-1880 PSC to 1700-1800 with Hypers...so it should be easier for you to clock PSC than I'm able to clock Hyper. When that board debuted, it was $130 and not $80 btw, I owned the DDR2 variant till I sold it to gomeler (he got 6 Ghz on a Sempron 140 with it) and loved it to death.

okay? not up for this and no need to it's all about the north bridge, not ram I'm not interested in a debate. The DDR2 variant is not the same and you don't even own this board. Thx have a good night.

nice clock trt can you get a high HT link speed with it too?

gem of a chip wonder what k10stat could get if you clocked core by core

    Funny stuff.

You act like you know everything and I know nothing and you can't accept that the board might have a few problems. I already know the DDR2 variant isn't the same, but maybe I oughta go buy the board to see what it's really like. All about the northbridge and not the ram, huh? Everyone knows PSC does higher Mhz than Hyper, which is the prime reason you never see Hyper doing 2400+ (or 2100+ for that matter) in AMD ram speed records. It's all PSC, it clocks higher and it's a little more forgiving on the IMC. What else is all the northbridge? I thought you said it was all the board.

Btw, "I'm not up for this, you don't own this board, the DDR2 variant is not the same and Thx have a good night." you seem like you don't like me all that much, do you?

    @ cdawall

His CPU is surely a gem, 4.2 @ 1.45v on air is amazing...I wonder what it would do on water or subzero.

it is good as a quad but i still want to see some dual core push the hell outta it clocks 4.2 on air is cool but it has been doable since RB-C1 prerelease chips albeit at way higher volts

Dude here's the cpu support list for that board.
    http://www.gigabyte.us/support-downl....aspx?pid=3038

I have a friend that has that same board as well and he's runing at 955be oc'd to 3.8ghz, If planning to keep the board why jump from a X3 to a X4 black edition he's about to jump from a Phenom II X4 955 to a Phenom II X6 1090T. It only makes sense to jump forward than stay even or barkward. But. I don't know the rest of your setup either memory, cooling etc and the F10C bios started with the Phenom II X4 970 and above to the Phenom II X6 1090T remember that's a AM2+ motherboard. I would get a Black Edition C3 chip if it was me

I saw that CPU support list and Athlon II X3 450 isn't included in it, though technically this board is able to support it. There is no point getting PH II BE as I can easilly unlock that Athlon II X3 and OC it to ~4GHz. Everybody knows that L3 cache isn't important.

Who is everybody lolz.. >?? With FFXIV benchmark I score 33-3500 pts with no lv3 cache and stock gpu. I'm a little vague b/c its been a while since..

FFXIV benchmark with Lv3 cache and stock 700/1150 gpu..

10/15% performance gain is very nice indeed and shows it does matter,I bet the min was better making the bench run smoother.

20%+ with games/apps that are more cpu intensive.

+15% perf. for almost 100% price increase is not justified for me though there is also possibility to unlock and L3 cache.

Good Luck with that remember the Hybrid setting will disable the core temps in Everest...

I think you mis-understand me. I said get an Athlon II x3/4 and unlock it.

You still have the CPU temp to go by lol.. the bios and Speedfan read it.. no probs.

The only downside is its not as 'real time'. And I'm surprised no one has figured a way around it by now haha..

I added another 4 gb of 1600 DDR3 Redline , making 8 gb total, and it works great. My over clocking is just as stable with 8gb.

    Congrats to 8 Gigland :clap

I've just gone from 4 to 8 and now 12gigs, this past week. Some will say 8 is too much and many will say 12. I say BAA to you all b/c you can never have too much ram.

I am not seeing any difference in performance at all but it was on sale and this ram seems designed for this board. It has tight timing and makes the N/B and cpu much more stable. For 84.00 you cannot go wrong. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226120. If your looking for good ram, with zero trouble this is it.

I agree, that's some awesome ram for an awesome price. It's a PSC kit and you are right, it's easier on the CPUNB. Good to see you got 1666 6-8-6 also over 8GB, looks like you've got a good IMC on that chip as well

*sigh*, too bad he will never read my first positive comment about him.

With ACC enable. Rams running higher than 950mhz = crash within 5 minute stress testing.

With ACC disable it can hit 1100 no problem.

Is my cpu MIC giving out?

It could be from the extra heat...but it shouldn't be that bad.
