OCZ 3700EB wont respond to higher Vdimm?

Spent some time playing with my 3700EB modules in the last few days....

well my sticks aint the best clockers arround

    max i can get them is 242mhz @ 2.5 2 2 5 (8) pat enabled, turbo, infinity, 64ìsec

At first they only liked mos of the settings to auto except 2.5 2 2 5 (4)

did some burning in etc and now i can see they can cope with all the other settings enabled

the prob is that the sticks wont respond to voltage at all

i am pushin 3.05V which is the lowest my board can do (Vdimm modded)

i am testing with memtest 95 and prime

from 3.05 to 3.35V I DONT GAIN even a SINGLE MHZ

    thats with 2.5 2 2 5 always

i have taken their heatspreaders off and used 2 delta fans 40mm and coolermaster ramsinks to cool them

i tried last night dimm slot 3 and 4 which were worse giving me 4 errors in memtest at the fsb of 242

seen a mates sticks do 252 prime stable and memtest stable at the same timings and voltage.

if i try cas 3 and keep the other settings the same i DONT gain any extra mhz either...

even if you do try 3 2 2 8 still nothing

i slackened the timings to 3 3 3 8 and they did go higher(didnt find max)

any idea why they dont scale up with voltage + why do they not gain any extra mhz with cas 3 from 2.5?

My board is the asus P4C800E Volt modded
NB cooled with TT tiger 1 cooler
    VAGP 1.75V iirc

cpu my 2.8M0 or the 3.2C i got a few days ago(been testing with both)

try TRCD or TRP at3 along with cas3...I have 4 modules here, 2 do well at 2.5-2-2 and the other 2 do well with 3-3-2 so its luck of the draw how they scale at 2.5-2-2...

time to swap my 3.2C then with the 2.8C and test again with 3 3 3 8 timings...

will do that in the following days

so you reckon they should scale with voltage...its just got something to do with timings?

    thanks

I have found once EB hits its max that is it..voltage will do nothing to help.So starting at say 3V should get you real close to the rams max with a slight bump to get the rest.

Its also board and bios dependant as to what speed and timings you will hit..some boards do better than others.

    right i see

    so does 242 2.5 2 2 5 sound like average?

any idea why they aint going higher with cas 3?

think i will keep these sticks ...

i will try them single channel too...

just a bit annoyed since 2 of my mates who bought these sticks do higher than me..one of them 252fsb! stable

my new P4C800E is coming the day after tomorrow so i'll see what it can do then

did you have some memory with X-2-2-X on that mainboard before?
i can go a little higher with my 1GB 3500 but it maxes out at the same speed my BH5 did with 2-2-2-5

Its also possible that your board just can't go higher with the fast timings and 2x512MB.

    My (modded) IC7 maxed at around 255 with 2x512MB 3700EB at 3-2-2-6 timings (and 3.0=> 3.3V tested).
Same ram (@3.3V) on A64 K8N Pro mobo hit 295MHz with same timings..

Try 15.6usec, 64 seems to get finicky the higher you get.

brwmogazos: I noticed the same thing with my PC3200 EB...they will do 235mhz 2,5-2-2-5 with 2.75v...and 240 2,5-2-2-5 with 2.8...but thats it ....it just wont go higher...no matter what voltage I put in to it...I have mounted a 92mm zalman blowing on them...so heat shouldn´t be a big issiue.

This is on an AN50R..that I know 100% will do at least 280mhz with thoose timings and BH-5

Haven´t tried higher timings yet....will do soon.

OK... I tried all timing cominations possible...but it just wont go over 240mhz stable(memtest error free that is)....I also tied bumping voltage up to 3.3 ...but no go above 240mhz.

And cas3 it´s totaly impossible ...it locks the board so hard I have to reset bios..to get a boot.

And as I said my AN50R with bios 10.30 will do around 280mhz 1:1 with BH-5.

guess your rams just maxed out. still 240fsb with ras-cas of 2 is VERY good, especially at below 3 volts! This looks like some great ram for an a64 at 240fsb with tight timings and no vdimm mod!

i am pretty sure thats the case with my ram too as the guys have pointed out...

max is 242fsb...still great considering these timings ...will test with 3 3 3 8 when i get the new board + use my 2.8 with it to see how high it will go

3.05 is the minimum i can push so i will leave them with that

Sure I agree..it´s not that bad considering the voltage and timings.

    But I do think it´strange that I can´t run cas3..??
Aren´t the EB line of memories supposed to be the same chip(micron).....even thou they are programed different they should be able to run at same cas settings.
    At least at 200mhz.

But thats just my humble opinion...!!!

    Any OCZ guy here...with some input....Bigtoe ????

Yeah EBs are a great stuff

My EB´s running @ 310 MHZ prime and superpi stable.

EB loves voltages up to 3,4 Volts, all above will fast fry the Memory.

I think the failure is on your Motherboard, all 3700 EB´s i have tested runs with 2,9 V min. 240 MHZ.

i can run cas 3 ONLY IN 1:1

my P4C800E CANNOT run cas 3 with any divider...5/4 or 3/2 and cas 3 and it wont boot...tried it with my vitesta modules and bh 5... no go...

    1:1 is fine

ok then tomorrow i will be testing them with a new P4C800E

if they dont respond to voltage then i will swap them with your sticks :p
