Havent been as active as I'd like to be but saw this and needed to post.

Thanks for posting this up Dave. Jon was a good friend I chatted to many a night via MSN but never got to meet in the person and I am sad that he has passed. A wonderful man with a heart of gold taken from the world far too soon.

I'll send you a PM as I would be honored to be able to crunch in his name.

Well a damper on my plans - I was going to put my quad AMD on this but the pump I bought is DOA I'm trying to work something out with the seller (he's looking into RMAing with the mfr) but this just means it won't be up for at least a couple more weeks. Drat.

Would it be better to change the weak key with no work on the rig, or would it hurt to go ahead and change it?

If you only have the weak key I don't think you can change it.

I tried with just the weak key. I get an error. Message from server: Invalid or missing account key. Visit this project's web site to get an account key.

Must be something else we need to change or do.

Someone got it to work. There where some points on Loonym's account a few days ago. Let's get this thing going.

Do it Dave. They will listen to you, I hope. I want to get this going. I did not know Jon as good as some here. But I would say he was a friend. I want to do this in his honor.

Where did BOINC report this error? On the messages page?

Can you PM me the info too, Dave.
And I hope to see some info on how to get this to work too. (if I have time today I will read the link posted here before and see if I can figure it out.)

I'm now going to let my cruncher finish all the work that has been downloaded already. Is this needed or could I finish that work on Jon's account?

I simply put the .xml file in the BOINC directory.

I have not seen any errors on the BOINC messages tab.

However, on the BOINC Projects tab, it still has my account name....so I don't know if I'm actually crediting to Loonym's account....I have turned in about 2 or 3 tasks since putting the .xml in the folder.

Think I've gotten it figured out, at least for Windows 7 64bit.

    Go to
    C:/Program Filesx86/Boinc/Data Directory
    Edit the file called account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org
Change what is inbetween <authenticator> weak key #</authenticator>
    Save.
Not save as, for me when I edited it, it opens it in notepad, so if you save as, it saves it as a txt file.
Boinc is running a couple projects and should be done within a couple hours. er, 8 for one and 12 for the other... POS laptop...

Boinc still shows me as the account after a restart, so guess we'll see if that did it.
If it did you should see a new system on his account called IFMU_LT.

I finally found the file. For whatever reason, I didn't find it before....even using search....must have missed it.

Anyway, I replaced my weak key with Loonym's and.....got the same error as Lu523.

Edit: The OS I'm dealing with is XP 32-bit. Directory: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC

Thought I had it working without errors.
But when I hit "update" on the project tab I get the same error as the others got.

Could it be that we are using it wrong? The key that I got from Dave is 7 digits longer than my own key. Maybe we should use it without the first 8 digits and the "_"?

EDIT: I tried that and still get the same error.

I noticed the character length difference too....didn't really think much of it.

    Thanks for trying.

I wonder if D_A got it working right on his machine/s.

I got a PM in to Bob. Hopefully he will get back to me soon. We need to get this going. I am about 9 days from catching loonmy. I know he is no longer among us, but I feel bad about passing him.
