They're rated for use on 95W TDP (75W ACP) CPUs so they should be fine on mine (79W TDP (55W ACP)).
I have four of that. That's what I was referring to. 60mm fans @ 6000 rpm.

If you like silence, don't get it.

    Otherwise, they work great.

What are your CPUs and temperatures?

My CPUs were 8347s and I didn't really check temps under load -- I only checked to see everything was working perfectly, and it was. Idled in high 20s very low 30s... I know idle temps don't mean much, but considering I was using a 2" cooler, that was pretty good.

They're currently sitting somewhere, since I sold all the CPUs I had to people on this forum.

    EDIT: ambient was 17-19C.

Aha, so you fill up CPU0, CPU1, etc.

I assumed you'd give memory to each CPU, but I suppose it depends how the chipset works. Shared memory between all CPUs as opposed to keeping it separate.

    Thank you very much, sir!

    Swapped the RAM.

I'm going to order the PSUs tonight.

Does anybody know how much space a full install of Ubuntu/SUSE including BOINC takes up?

12 GB in the era of 1TB hard drives is nothing. Barely over 1% of total capacity

So you put 7 on one of these, or just another desktop?

True, but bloated code is sloppy code, and sloppy code makes for bugs, blue screens, big security holes and hidden "extras" that call home to tell MS what you have installed and if the music/movies etc you have satisfy THEIR view of legitimate.

Uh I somehow doubt that windows is calling MS reporting on you and what you have on your computer They don't have your name or address or anything like that anyway unless you gave it to them

I've *heard* that Server 2008 R2 which is based on Win7 does support EFI. I plan on finding out.

    Didn't you register your license?

and the calling home part has been public knowledge for a while (just one link, there's plenty more): http://technews.am/conversations/the..._s_piracy_free

No, I never do. I just activate, not register, since that is optional and I really don't care for MS to have all my info

In other news, I have a project log up in the watercooling build log area

For the board, CPUs, and RAM I paid about $260-ish. I got a good deal on some memory at work, $60 for 8GB, but you could probably still find 4GB for that price (and 8GB is overkill, just had that much because that is what was available).

Oh well, they've only got your IP then ... if anything on your system gets flagged as "naughty naughty" by their anti piracy algorithms, that is.
( I never registered back when I ran Windows, either. Make the bastiches work for it, I say! )
