Before, I was ever told :
I'm waiting until the Mafia 2 game officially released, but I can confirm that GT240 is the best PhysX card.
Now I declare that GT240 is the best dedicated PhysX card for Mafia II.

    Do you agree with me?

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

No offense, but that is an extremely terrible voltage for such low overclock I didnt think i7 965 C0s were that bad about needing high voltages. Hell, everyone of the 8 i7 930s I had hit 4.4 Ghz stable at anywhere from 1.35-1.42V

wait... even with a dedicated gtx460 for physix the fps drop to single digits?
so hows a gtx285 be enough? and isnt the gtx480 just as fast as a gtx285 when it comes to physix?
and if a 460 cant handle physix in mafia2, hows a 285 going to do it?

min FPS never drop that low ....there's some kind of bug in the MafiaII benchmark....check out my testing in the other thread

built in benchmark according to FRAPS & MSI AB

I set vcore=1.38125V for measuring power consumption.

All series GeForce GTX 400 have serious bug with Demo Mafia II (min FPS) when benchmark APEX High + AA.

    My system
    CPU Core i5 750 @ 3.6GHz
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit RTM
    Driver NVIDIA 259.31 beta 64bit
    PhysX_9.10.0513_SystemSoftware

    Settings of Demo Mafia 2

    Single ASUS GTX 460 1GB TOP @ 800/1600/1050

    Single ASUS 9800 GT 512MB @ 600/1500/900

    ASUS GTX 285 TOP 1GB @ 670/1550/1300

You can see that, min FPS of GTX 460 1GB is lower min FPS of 9800GT.

It's not a 400 series bug Even your own results with the 5800 series show similarly low min FPS.....

You didn't even bother to check the link I sent did you
If you had you'd have seen that the in-game benchmark recorded similarly low minimums for me, but I was also monitoring with FRAPS and MSI AB, and both of them reported much more resonable results

Look at this screen for an example

The in-game bench reported min of 9.9 or so (hard to read)....FRAPS & MSI SB (lowest graph in monitor window) both recorded much better FPS

I've got similar results to miahallen in Mafia II. I have a GTX470 and have tested it with a 9600GT and a GTS250 as PhysX cards.

PhysX High is too demanding for my rig at 1080P, with everything maxed out except AA off, I get similar framerates as yourself. But PhysX medium is possible to get smoothly running with a dedicated PhysX card, not without.

    GTX470 @ 815/1630/4000

With only the GTX470 and PhysX medium I get 30 fps avg.
With GTX470 and 9600GT as PhysX card i get 43 fps avg.

When I use GTS250 as PhysX card I can lower the GTX470-clock to 750/1500/3600 and still get 48 fps avg. Max. is much higher as well. The improvement is visible to the eye, everything is displayed in a much calmer way even though 9600GT rendered the biggest improvement. Up from unplayable.

Min. is bugged out at every setting ~3 fps, as stated before. The demo part of it runs well with PhysX medium using the GTS250 for PhysX and the 750MHz-clock of the GTX470.

My findings are very similar to the recommendations from the developer as to what hardware to use for Apex PhysX, it looks like they have tested it

I'm very new to this dedicated PhysX-card thing, I've been using it for 2 days only. Obviously SLI is the best choice anyway, but it's much more expensive as it requires two current cards. For just a PhysX improvement it's possible to use an old card from the closet, or bought cheaply second hand. That's the interesting aspect of it.

I wrote about it at my site; http://xeizo.com , and will post more when I find out more. Flip or flop?

edit. I got a huge fps boost by turning off Intel EIST, now I can run all settings at high, 16AF, AO yes, AA no, 1080P, with PhysX high @ 42 fps avg. and PhysX medium @ 52 fps avg. Turning off EIST and using a dedicated PhysX-card combined makes Apex PhysX high a playable option The GTS250 never exceeds 60% gpu usage, so there's even some headroom left for more PhysX.

Hey guys, sorry to resurrect this thread, but I want to ask you what vga should I get for Physx? Right now Im running a single GTX 460 768MB @ 900/1800/2050 with a 8600GT 512MB, the one that has 32 shaders for the Physx. Should I get a GT240 or the recent GT430, or I keep the 8600GT?
