I finally got this system built. I'm still dialing it in, but so far I have it prime blend stable at 4050 @ 1.5v, no turbo, 300 HTRef to get my ram to 1600.

That seems to have done the trick, at least so far. Thanks!

See above, I managed to avoid the ps/2 keyboard so far

Hey long time no post in this forum

Today I recieved the MA790XT-udp4 which I bought second hand it came with bios F6 , I also bought a 1055T , when I put the system together it wouldn]t even boot , seem like the board was dead or the psu , after a bios reset it started booting but a completly unstable system , anything usb connected made it reboot ,nothing worked but it seemed stable inside the bios menu

cutting it short I solved the problem updating the bios like advised by some users here (thanks to them ) without compatible cpu

all you need is floppy drive and a good floppy disk with the bios F8

with the bios at setup defaults , with nothing connected but the floppy disk , go in to the bios menu , then press F8 , and update the bios with q-flash utility so you dont need a compatible cpu with the older bios to update

Make shure the Jumper on HD is set to Master Not cable select....

Make shure HD is set as Primary HD device to boot in Bios.

If Installing a Fresh OS ,, Format it first if you dont need any data off it. That means a Full Erase/Format and set as a NT

Make Shure Bios Can detect it.. Just Go into Bios and perform the HD Auto detect in Main Page..It should be able to show Large and how many sectors it has.

If not you may have a bad/Loose IDE cable or even the Drive can be Fubared if its a used old Benching IDE HD.

Try this if all above is OK
Boot from Win7 CD and Perform Repair MBR(Master Boot Record). Even a Wester Digital Lifegaurd tools can do this as well as Seagates MaxBlast.

Usually this is what keeps one from starting Windows when swappining a drive. You May have Bad Drivers left over from the other System too..

Cool so it looks like Gigabyte has finally disabled CnQ. Now to see if I can figure out a way to work Turbo in with my overclock.

Can a BIOS update really allow me to bootup with HTT past 316 now? I'm currently trying to get my system prime95 blend stable at 12x333, but it's been tough. My system wouldn't even post when I would try anything past 316 HTT before this new BIOS update.

this helped me alot, still cant get it to let me clock great with 4 sticks of ram, but at least i got it stable at 3.5+ with ram at 1666 range.

this bios dosnt play nice with Amd Overdrive tweaks, just a warrning, sometimes when you change settings using AOD it will boost the cpu volts to 1.6+(no joke)

so far turbo has worked out well for me, it boosts all 6 cores(0-5) when under real load 4-4.1gz and back down to 3.5-3.6 range when doing normal desktop stuff

I was able to go above 350 with F6 on my 965BE in some tests in Simon's C3 thread. With F8C I am running 308 day to day on a 1055T in order to clock the ram near 1600+. I'll probably hold off on the latest for now if it's cranky with AOD as AzureSky indicates below.

Have any of you noticed any stability problems with the NB multiplier on 7x or 8x?

I was on the DDR2 variant but I do think I remembered problems with 8x on my board. 6-7 was okay and 9 was too.

Is it possible that my current cpu (720be) is limiting the HT of my motherboard (ma790xt ud4p) ?

Even with the lowest possible multiplier for the cpu/nbcpu/htt and lowest divider for memory, anything above 266 will freeze at POST and anything above 264 will be unstable in windows.

So yeah, is the weak part here the cpu or the motherboard ?

See what happens when you set the Bios Up Using HYBRID MODE on AUTO..

Ive found on the UD4P DDR2 mobo that the Bioses work best in hybrid on X4's and Most X2's..

this very well may be the same for Thurban..

If i had a thurb ,, id test it for ya

Ive found the 10A to be the Highest HTT clocking Bios for 790x UD4P .So far with my 555 i ran it up to 290+htt before getting Raid corruption.. Any other Bios it was limited to around 270 max while using Raid.

    Hey guys,

I have this GA-MA790XT-UD4P M/B with 4GB of the OCZ3P16004GK @1333Mhz and a Phenom II X3 720. The fact is that I only have the system stable if I set the CPU-NB VID at 1.30V and the NB VID at +0.1V. From what I read over the internet it seems a common problem for the users with the RB-C2 processor version. I would like to use my system at the stock voltages, and my question is will I see a significant improvement in stability if I change my processor to the RB-C3 Phenom II X4 955? Or should I change my RAM to a more compatible one? Do you have suggestions on 4GB kits for this M/B?

Just another question: what is this cold boot issue with this mobo? I'm asking this, because any version of the F8 beta bios I have random freezes when starting windows, and they always occur from a cold boot. The F7 seems to be much more stable.

I noticed I have cold boot issues if I don't bump up my cpu-nb voltage high enough.........2600MHz needs 1.2 to 1.275v depending, 2800MHz needs 1.3-1.35v, etc...Just what I've noticed for my own mobo.

I noticed this also. The differenc is that depénding on the BIOS version this bump in the CPU-NB voltage must be higher. I'm not overclocking my HTT only the CPU to 3200Mhz. With F7 bios, if I bump only +0.050V in the CPU-NB, it is perfectly stable. With all the F8 beta bioses I need +0.100V at least and +0.1V in the Northbridge voltage. Also the F8F does not give an option to disable USB Mouse Support what if I disable improves a lot the stability of my system. I think that most of these M/B problems are BIOS related.

Anyway, I've ordered a new set of low voltage Corsair memory (TW3X4G1333C9A) to replace my OCZ ones (OCZ3P16004GK). They are rated 1.9V while the Corsair ones are 1.5V. I've read that low voltage memories improves stability in AMD AM3 systems, so I hope to improve it..

I don't think it does, maybe in X6, but not with quads like mine. I can run DDR2 @ 2.4v with no problem as well as DDR3 @ 2.3v without issue. Micron D9 GTS ftw.

Well, my new memory arrived and I installed it. The system is rock stable now! I don't have to overvolt the NB anylonger even with the F8F bios.
Now I'm overclocking my Phenom II X3 720 BE with K10STAT to 3200Mhz with stock voltages for CPU and CPU-NB. The idle I was able even to undervolt the CPU to 0.95V and CPU-NB to 1.10V that it is still completely stable.

I recommend big time this TW3X4G1333C9A kit from Corsair to pair with this motherboard. For who wants a cost effective solution it is great. Timings are 9-9-9-24 1T and Vdimm 1.60V (it is the lowest my M/B accepts).

From what I've read over the internet, definitely the OCZ platinum memories are not so good for AM3 setups and C2 Phenoms, at least the ones with higher Vdimm rating.
