why did you chose those clocks?
    similar to this
    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/N...60_SLI/25.html

a 5970 is around 10% faster on average...
and thats about the boost i expect from enabling the 8th block of shaders on gf104...
so the 495 should really be able to compete with the 5970... but i wonder how they hold up against the overclocked editions of 5970, as those clock a lot higher and 460s only reach around 900mhz...

Nice mate , thanks for this! always though the 460's in SLI were better as they scale great! Still though for price/performance they own the 5970!

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

a few issues i see with your HD5970

    1 - only 1gb mem is registering when it's a 2gb mem card
2 - your overclock is very mild, you can easily go MUCH higher *950core 1250mem with 1.175v core easy*

those two easily make up WAY more over the 460 without a sweat. my HD5970 on average does 33-35k on GPU vantage scores and still has room for improvement both with drivers and with more OC head room.

    Nice benchies mate!!

@ Johnny, yeah, it sucks, imagine how many more cards NVIDIA would sell if it could handle TRI SLI/QUAD. Let's hope they release a dual version

both overclocks are mild so it is a fair performance comparison.

Don't make excuses for 5970 it costs at least 200$ more than two GTX 460 1GB, so performance of GTX 460 SLI is very high for their price.
And also not say that...one card is better than two because Nvidia SLI drivers are more stable and witheout bugs than Ati's CF. And 20-30$ you can spend more for a better motheboard with SLI and more overclocking capabilities.
And also GTX 460 fits on every case, thing that is not valable for the long 5970.

    Amazing comparision as usual bakalu!

So, the sweet pot is in a SLI of GTX460 1GB edition, wich is something that I really want, but since I have a mother that doesn't deliver 16x lanes in both PCI-E I don't think that it will be such as good as this one.

Can you try it in a P55 configuration? Would love to see how much impact to the performance will bring.

Beside, I hope that they create the GTX495 with double GTX460 1GB, or with full 8 clusters I need a new vga :p

has nothing to do with me being a fanboy of anything, i don't choose sides for graphics, i only choose what i find to be the best option. in this case i choose my option and then ran into driver issues after... it happens.

just saying that doing such a mild clock on both setups, it would be better to put both setups at thier stable max settings and then do a comparison.

Yeh that would be wicked dude, i was so tempted to get 3 of these straight up, as its around same price as one 5970, and basically would kick the out of it

It would of made more sence to give the 460s same clockspeed as the 5970 (or close to it) then compare the two.

x8/x8 P55 performance is a bit weaker than the x16/x16 X58. I'll show you some results benchmark P55 configuration to compare X58 configuration.

To view the performance of SLI GTX 460 1GB and CrossFireX HD 5850 improve how much to compare with one VGA, I benchmark 5850 and GTX 460 1GB at the same resolution and clock of 5970 and SLI GTX 460 1GB.

Clearly, improved SLI performance is a lot better than CrossFireX, so not surprisingly performance of GTX 460 1GB lost HD 5850 a lot but the performance of SLI GTX 460 1GB is the same as Radeon HD 5970.
