Areca heeft op de Cebit een raid-adapter met ondersteuning voor de nieuwe 6Gbps sas-standaard getoond. Areca has a raid at the Cebit adapter with support for the new 6Gbps SAS displayed by default. Het Taiwanese bedrijf presenteerde daarnaast een serie eenvoudige sas-controllers zonder raid-functionaliteit. The Taiwanese company also presented a series of simple SAS controller without raid functionality

Looks good and given that they are in holland i can get it reasonable trouble free.

I would imaging that the date is for world wide
I don't think a hardware manufacture would launch hardware just in one european country
They would only launch it in the usa of but not one medium sized European country.
webconnexxion is also on of the larger dutch shop's so i would think the date is accurate

Of course there is no cache listed in the specs, because there are no exact specs te find on the site of Areca about the ARC-1880 controllers.

How mutch cache the controllers get depend on the price and availablilty of the memory modules on the moment of release.

I guess it will be 512MB or 1GB modules, maybe the smaller models 512MB onboard and the 12 ports controllers 1GB. Expandable to 4GB.

Ans still there is no release date known yet. And Areca is very quiet about this series

is the XOR a dual-core? I remember when the 1680 series came out everyone raved about the dc xor drastically reducing RAID 5,6 rebuild times.. or am I missing something?

no dual core. specs are hazy as hell. steve-o i have it upon very good info, (but do remember folks, they had a "launch" months ago) however, they say actual physical product should be rolled out next week.

I downloaded the file earlier today, as you say, all using HDD.

well i see my source didnt pan out...gah! hard to believe they are this late to market with this product. the R&D must be killing them!

This is getting ridiculous.
Mayby they found a slew of new bugs in the firmware they are trying to fix.
2 years ago i tried building a server with a x48 chipset ,arc-1222 and server 2K08
The system didn't boot off the acera.
Worked perfecly under server 03 ,linux etc but not server 08 tested by me and the store.
We then send the server to acerca and they found the problem.
What was the matter some of the memory adressing of the controller overlapped that of the ddr3 and server 08 checks for that where other os's didn't.
When they tried on a board that supported both ddr2/3 they had the same problem but when the mobo was outfitted with ddr2 it worked flawless.
They never encoutered this before and had the problem on all DDR3 boards.
The store replaced the board with a x38 ddr2 model so i could get the server working since acerca couldn't fix it with in my deadline for getting the thing on-line.
It had to be done during the holliday's since it was the new server for a school to replace the dying server there.
But i never did find out if they fixed it.
Mayby it is still the same issue troubling them.

nope. last concrete thing that i heard is that they had big problems with a subcontractor and some chips they provided, and that the chips were actually already on a -ton of controllers. thats it, besides a few months later a false alarm on release date.
