    Hello everyone, I registered long ago and I was waiting for the validation so I could post.

    I bought a computer that has the following spec:

    I7 965 extreme watercooler with NB too.
    Asus Rampage II Extreme
    12 gb ram corsair TR3X6G1600C9 9-9-9-24
    2 Velociraptors Raid0
    Evga Co-op 295 GTX
    1200 Watts Ps

    I Don't really know anything about OC this is my first computer with OC.
    Now my question is that I have someone doing some settings to the previous OC, and now I see some differents I don't understand.

    My qpi is lower which I think is not a good thing. Before was 3.2 now is 2.8 in cpuz.

    While windows doesn't see my new OC all cpu apps see it at 4 ghz. In IRC it shows only at 3.85 ghz. Before, the pc was OC all the time, now it idle at 1.9 ghz and OC to 4 ghz when needed which I think is good.

    I have a picture showing previous OC and the OC that was done after. Which is better? http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/1...reandafter.jpg

    Here is a pic of cpuz: http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/4416/cpuzt.jpg

    If someone can help me I will appreciate it. Sorry about my english!.

    Ghoster you need too read up on OC.
    No volts should be on "auto" and speedstep and turbo should be switched off.
    With speedstep on the CPU slows down under idle and speeds up under load.

    Hi there, yeah I have been reading a lot here, I will need to learn a lot more. It's still confusing for me, especially the volts parts.
    Any idea why qpi is so low? Also intel processor indentification utility shows:
    intel qpi expected 4.80 gts , is that a mistake? I thought i7 965 suppost to be 6.4 gts!!!!!

    Pushed things harder. So close to 30K 06 single GTX295. Uncore didn't want to run at 3.95 GHz with the CPU at 4.6 GHz. Might be board, might need more Vtt or vIOH, didn't have the time to get to the bottom of it. I'd love to try a Rampage III Extreme, someone want to give me one?

    Nice score there Cryptic but you should get a better score with higher uncore speed.

    Trying to push my i7 980X past 4788 MHz with all four GPU's at max but my PSU can'nt handle with the load. I've got a 1000w PSU and I'm pulling close to 1400w from the socket.

    Running the CPU at 4788 MHz with 4,2 GHz uncore 1,6 vtt and 1,61 vcore

    Yeah I had limited time and didnt want to overshoot required Vtt/vIOH by too much and after a few runs ran out of time, but I think I'll get there. I want to crack 30K with this card.

    Very nice results from you too, looks like it's time for a PSU upgrade!

    Just keep working and you'll get the 30k

    I'm getting a new PSU shortly and I'm adding a third waterloop to separate the 5970 and CPU, the 5870's are already on a separate loop.

    Yeah pity about my boards BCLK limit, if I could simply turn it up a notch or two I'd have 30K in the bag.

    You can't run the 5970 and 2 x 5870's on the one loop? Good idea to separate the cpu from the 5970 though, those cards put out quite a bit of heat. Is your setup open or in a case?

    Well lets hope the Rampage III have a higher BCLK limit, I'll be getting one soon.

    Yeah I can run the 5970 and the 2 x 5870 on the one loop but I kind of promised my wife a tripple loop setup with three colours on the water.
    I have my setup in a Corsair Obsidian 800D

    Seems like a clearance problem. Onboard usb cables are pretty much standard so i don't know if u'll find any luck with other...

    Why do u need the extra onboard headers?

    Seems strange since I'm using all three PCIe slots and I've got no problem there, how big/deep are the EK blocks on the 280's. You've got a picture of it?

    Hey Guys , Thanks to all your help im starting to figure out overclocking

    But i Still have a doubt
    What are these voltages?

    IOH voltage - [1.15v]
    IOH PCIE voltage - [1.5v]
    ICH voltage- [1.15v]
    ICH PCIE voltage - [1.5v]

    i know PCIE ones should be ones who control PCIE frec but the others? is it useful to take them in consideration while overclocking?

    ****************************************

    Ok and now ill show you the next issue im having is to boot my comp while trying to set my mems at 2000mhz , and timings like 7-8-7-20 or 21 at 1N . No matter which QPI and DRAM volts i set comp wont start.

    I've seen lots of people with the same ram as mine , i would love to get an advice about that.

    Here are my current settings

    AI overclock - [manual]
    OC from CPU level up - [auto]
    OC from Memory level up - [auto]
    CPU Ratio setting - [21]

    CPU configuration
    CPU Ratio Setting - [21]
    C1E Support - [disable]
    Hardware prefetcher - [enabled]
    Adjacent Cache line prefetcher - [enabled]
    Intel Virtualization tech - [disabled]
    CPU TM Function - [disabled]
    Execute Disabled bit - [disabled]
    Intel HT Technology - [enable]
    Active Processor Cores - [all]
    A20M - [default]
    Intel Speedstep tech - [disable]
    Intel Turbo Mode tech - [disabled] (Not shown if Speedstep is disabled)
    Intel C-STATE tech - [disabled]
    BCLK frequency - [200]
    PCIE frequency - [100]
    DRAM frequency - [DDR3 2000MHz] IF all timing on auto it boots.
    UCLK frequency - [4000MHz]
    QPI frequency - [auto]

    Dram timing control
    1st iformation - [all auto]
    2nd information - [all auto]
    3rd information - [all auto]

    EPU II phase control - [full phase]
    Load-line calibration - [enable]
    CPU differential amplitude - [auto]
    Extreme OV - [disabled]

    Current voltage
    Cpu voltage - [1.288v]
    CPU PLL voltage - [auto]
    QPI-Dram voltage - [1.4500v]
    Current voltage 1.131v - 1.508v - 1.111v - 1.508v

    IOH voltage - [1.15v]
    IOH PCIE voltage - [1.5v]
    ICH voltage- [1.15v]
    ICH PCIE voltage - [1.5v]

    DRAM Bus voltage - [auto]
    DRAM REF voltage - [auto]

    Debug mode - [string]
    Keyboard TeakIt comtrol - [disabled]

    CPU spread spectrum - [disabled]
    PCIE spectrum - [disabled]
    CPU clock skew - [auto]
    IOH clock skew - [auto]

    ***with this settings i can boot , but i get instant blue screen when trying to run LinX****

    /Is QPI FRECUENCY necesary to set? or can i just leave it to auto? does it has benefits / cons ?

    and what about cpu pll voltage , should i leave it on auto or change it?

    i could only boot with QPI at 1.54 ; that is madness.. check that out.

    Thanks in advance guys

    greetings

    OK, I spoke too soon on the ACPI Suspend modes working again. It is happening to me on this & the regular Rampage II Extreme w/ Windows 7 Pro x64 tested on each motherboard. Now if I go back to my primary install of Windows Server 2008 Enterprise R2 x64 on 3 different machines (All Rampage; II, Gene II, & classc x48 based Extreme, it works fine, so now I have to ask, what in Windows OS drivers or features is effecting this? my main II Extreme has a utility download (ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit) but I'm not sure I saw one for the GENE. Does this add any ACPI added features? What are the added features used in ACPI 2.0 specs & ACPI APIC support?

    Server 2008 Enterprise R2 x64 & Windows 7 Enterprise x64 are working good for now but the regular 7 machine is not 100%, some days it will and the one day youre in a hurry, it doesn't suspend. it just about enters S3 suepend (Sleep) but just as lights dim it resumes. It at least isnt locking up like last year on old BIOS's but still it appears hit or mis.

    Setings at each test were like this

    Suspend Mode [AUTO]
    Repost Video on S3 Resume [NO]
    ACPI 2.0 Support [DISABLED]
    ACPI APIC Support [ENABLED]

    EDIT: It is my understanding that ACPI APIC must be ENABLED to install modern Windows OS's live Vista or 7 and cannot be switched back and forth if not Enabled during XP S2K3 install to utilize ACPI suspend functions. but if ACPI 2.0 is left Disabled can it be toggled between afterwords without any issues and if so what can it add if enabled or lack if not? Please correct me if I got it mixed up. Thankx in advance.

    hi ppl im back , i've tested a lot with my overclock .

    And it happened that i wont be able to boot or stable my system at 4.2 21 X 200BCLK + 2000 mhz of ram at 9-9-9-24 on auto settings , with HT on

    The only way to keep that stable was with a 1.33 Vcore and a QPI voltage of 1.54 , there was no way to lower QPI. i tried everything. tried with the PCI E frec at 108 , but neither helped. Ram voltage is at 1.65 but that doesnt seem to be the problem because i tried diferent voltages and it doesnt change , the only way i can change it is by increasing the QPI.

    im still trying but i find no way to keep it LinX stable without that HIGH QPI VOLTAGE

    What could i've done to avoid that? is there a way to lower the QPI needed? is that max overclock i could reach without risks?

    Thanks in advance.

    2000mhz mem speed @ 200mhz fsb isn't an easy task...

    If u need lower QPI volts lower your mem speed...

    Try 21x199 also...

    Ezequiel, resisze your pics before posting they are way too big. Something like 1100 - 1200 width is perfect for forums, scrolling side to side is no fun

    Running ram at DDR3-2000 MHz is not easy for these i7's - even ones with a good IMC need decent Vtt for that speed. If you do some testing, I think you'll find DDR3-1600 6-7-6-X is actually faster than DDR3-2000 9-9-9-X and will require a lot less Vtt.

    On another topic, I did some Vcore, Vtt and Vdimm measuring behind the CPU socket to get an idea of real voltages with LLC enabled since it was bugging me how much it seemed to over-volt on load.
    I don't use LLC normally, but when benching it helps control things a little more accurately. I was also curious about Vdimm so I measured it directly at the Dimm slots.

    CPU Vcore

    LLC On

    BIOS Set = 1.28750v

    Idle:

    CPU-Z = 1.280v
    Everest = 1.270 - 1.277v
    DMM = 1.29v

    Load:

    CPU-Z = 1.280v
    Everest = 1.316 - 1.323v
    DMM = 1.30 - 1.31v

    Vtt

    BIOS Set = 1.2750v
    Everest = 1.224v (idle) / 1.197v (load)
    DMM = 1.21v (idle) / 1.18 - 1.19v (load)

    Vdimm

    BIOS Set = 1.577v
    Everest = 1.568v (idle) / 1.548v (load)
    DMM = 1.58v (idle & load)

    Seems the board actually does increase vcore by 0.02v under load when LLC is enabled. This is not good behaviour, it should not change at all, or ideally, droop around 0.01 - 0.02v.
    Gigabyte implement a 2 step LLC system where you can have intel spec droop (LLC off), moderate droop (level 1) and slight/no droop (level 2). This is a much better system IMO and Asus would do well to
    use a similar system. The vcore should certainly not increase under load.

    Vtt is well below BIOS set voltage, idle and load is slightly lower than everest states.

    Vdimm is pretty much what you set in BIOS, which is higher than everest reports and does not change from idle to load (I tried this at a few Vdimm settings).

    Sorry but that is the limit of your MB since it varies from 210-225 I think, mine can do 224 but wont post at 225.
