    I mean not for price

What does unlocked X2 555 compare to (Intel)? I read a couple reviews that put it close to the X4 910

so a dual core AMD Phenom II X2 555 is equal to the i5 750 or the qx9650, i find that hard to understadn, where ca ni see any comparisons?

i am an AMD noob but i just picked up a Asus M4A79T and a x2 550 and an x4 955, so i am wondering what is the best way to run some stuff that i can compare to my i5 750 or q9550

i do a lot of video encoding, flash and stuff like that, i might jsut run a few real world tests against some of my work, plus i'll look for a few benchmarking progs to!

    any help?

Unlocked it's really a 955 so that means about Q9550 perf. with a slightly bumped NB speed.

955 is better than q9550, i made a test...Q9550 3.6GHz vs x4 955 3.6GHz and Phenom was winner. 955 is more similarry qx9650 (in practice, not teoretic benchmarks as Sandra etc etc...)

If you bump up the NB it really helps with performance.

That makes no sense. An overclocked q9550 is not really a q9550 anymore, it's better. the only difference between the 9550 and 9650 is clock speed. a 9650 and 9550 at the same speed perform exactly the same.

    Can I sig that?

He was just saying clock for clock @ 3.6 Ghz the 955 won whatever benches he ran be it compression or gaming. He just compared it to a Q9550. He was saying at stock speeds, the 955 performs close in performance to a QX9775. I don't think you read his post right.

Hey guys, Im going to buy one of this little and powerful kiddos, but I have a huge doubt what motherboard should I buy. I want decent OC with the possibility to unlock the 4th cores, but not an expensive motherboard, what would you recommend? The rig is for my family, but since I like OC everything, well, I want some specials specs for me :p

Go for gigabyte 770TA-UD3 or ASRock M3A 770DE, they are really good for the price. Remember that you need also to be lucky to unock the 3rd and 4th core, you have 50/50 chances.
I got a 555 but only the 3rd core unlocked stable (batch 1002), i wanted this chip has a quad core unlocked. So now I'm moving to a 965 C3.
Have a look here if you want, mine wasn't that good.

Thanks dude! Yeah, I supposed that unlocking cores wasn't so easy or it was going to have some tricky-digging thing. Hope that at least it will unlock at least 1 core more, if not, no big problem, it will run better than the actual 4200+ Windsor. My sister want to play The Sims 3.

Besides that, if it unlock all the cores and have a nice OC, do you recommend me to keep it, sell the Q9550 and buy them something similar? Reading the entire thread now you are saying that it will outperform my Q9550, wich I have plenty of doubts about that but, how knows.

I know all the reviewers got good clocks and unlocked fine, but I've seen about 5-6 of mine/my friends 555's not unlock all 4 cores. Mine will do 4.0 as an x3 with just a little bump in vcore, but it wont even boot with the fourth core unlocked.

I don't think it will outperform your 9550, based on my observations. Basically, when unlocked to X4 it's a X4 955. 9550 will be better in most cases. Well, the difference isn't so big.
    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/defau...p=88&p2=50&c=1

When we're talking about rendering... See the table below. I wasn't able to beat two of the 9550's even when I'm at 4.3GHz. There's a result with my unlocked 550, too. In this bench the memory is also important, and mine was running at 1300+ 5-5-5-15-20

When speaking about video encoding the phenom will be better, I guess.
After all their performance is similar.

Thanks guys! I will do some labour test with benchmarks and all the stuff if the 555 can unlock stable all the cores, but, I doubt it will outperform my Q9550, maybe it will be better in particular programms.

Thanks guys, I will keep an eye on this thread to see how good in unlocking are this babies

Just got mine last night. I haven't played with it enough but core 2 seems to be the issue. I did get 3 cores though.
