    X7560?

I was looking through the BOINC stats pages when I noticed that there were a couple systems like this. Now, I had not heard of a Xeon X7560, but look at the core count on that system. Googling "xeon x7560" brings up this page. So if there are 4 CPUs and 64 cores that's (let's see, 4, 12, carry the one, divide by pi, integrate) 16 threads per CPU! So, is anyone else as intrigued as me about why these are showing up in BOINC, and when we can wrestle them from the hands of IBM and Intel?

the boards, not even counting the cost of the chips, must be insanely priced.

    It's not running on a 64-socket motherboard, it's probably a cluster.

    It is a quad-socket board running 4 X5670's I presume.

    8 Cores/16 threads x 4 = 32 cores, 64 threads

Find a socket 1567 board and I maybe can find some chips

I see now that it is Beckton Don't know why I didn't think of that before.

Since when has not having a mobo stopped someone from buying a CPU that most don't have?

I did point out that it was 4 sockets and 16 threads per CPU. Of course, I WAS looking for clusters

Since forever Intel chips are floating around MONTHS before you can find boards for them, even if you have "sources" (I'm talking new socket stuff.)

Why do you want the old 8 core chips that need registered memory to run jcool. You really want the X5670 6 core Xeons that are running at 3.33 ghz don't ya?

By the way since the X5670's are nehalems you can run them on X58 mb's or the new EVGA dual socket board coming out

Beckton will be available in quad-socket boards

Word on the street is there might be an expansion board available for more than 4 sockets (6?) total

Edit: and X5670's are only 2.93Ghz, X5680's are the top of the line 3.33Ghz chips.

Why does it have to be either/or?
Of course I am getting at least one of the DP evga boads, probably with X5680's tho

And those "old" 8 core, 16 thread per CPU Becktons are by no means slow, plus Quad socket = p0rn which means I want them

    X7560

    Good day guys and gals.
I just got 4 of these processors from Intel directly. Although getting a board to put them into is not going to happen for a bit. Major OEM's have systems available - Dell, HP, Cray etc and can be gotten as we speak - so to speak

SuperMicro and Quanta are the only ODM's that Intel has specifically licensed to make these boards to sell to the retail community. You can see the SuperMicro boards here -->http://www.supermicro.com/products/m...8QB6.cfm?SAS=Y

I for one can't wait to get my hands on one as soon as they are available and to use it on BOINC. Although I'm a S@H fan there might be some extra cores to go around

Look to S@H shortly under user name Todd Hebert and you will see these in a few weeks as I have already pre-ordered the system. Should go along with two GTX-480's very nicely.
    Regards!

Well thank you! Ranked Third in the world for RAC - was at #2 for a few months and the GDE came along - from where I don't know.

The new rig should be going in about 2-3 weeks when they finally decide to ship the board. I could have had Intel ship the CPU's directly to SuperMicro and I would have gotten the system by now but I didn't want a development board.

    Hi,
The problem I see with the X7560's is first cost, almost $3800.00 each, then electrical cost. Was reading a quad socket 1567 with 4 of them in it was pulling 1300W ast 100% load.. Dear Lord!
