    AMD Previews Early 2010 Releases

Intel announced its latest wave of CPU and chipsets today, so it's hardly surprising that AMD has also chimed in with a few details about the hardware it plans to release in early 2010.

Among the entries in its lineup is the 555 Black Edition CPU; AMD says it will be the company's "fastest-ever dual-core CPU," and if the company's naming history continues to be a guide, it will be unlocked and ready for overclocking. The Athlon II family will see three new processors: the quad-core 635, the triple-core 440, and the dual-core 255.

Also planned are further entries in the 5000-series line of DirectX 11–ready graphics cards, at "new and more affordable price points," according to press information........

100mhz speed bump, thats a 2.x% performance boost, wow...
yeah, amd is really stealing intels thunder with this press release...
who would want a 100$ dualcore now that is as fast as a 500mhz higher clocked phenom2 and overclocks 30%+ on air.

Yeah, especially when you can buy an i3 or i5 with MCM gpu for more money and less performance than many quads...

The quad-core 635 and the 555 BE seem good, the best thing is that intel may drop the idiotic prices of I5 6xx

I want more info about their upcoming 6 core CPU's and more high end video cards, like this 5980 I've been hearing about.

AMD has said before that it will have backwards compatibility with AM2+ and DDR2.

I think that's the other way 'round: 5890.
5970 is already cherry-picked, lower-power cores, yet it's still hitting the
power limits, so a higher clocked version is not too probable yet IMO.

oh, only 100MHz bump, I was hoping at least 200MHz, I think with C3 they can make an Athlon II X4 @ 3.2GHz and X3 @ 3.3GHz with a resonable TDP, because i3 are real competitor for those chips (i5 6xx have a very stupid pricing)
    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T @ 4009MHz

^ same, 140W can give us 3.8ghz duel and tri cores i thought.

Who would want that?! I'd rather have a four core 3,6GHz than a 3,8GHz tricore. I mean, with a 140W TDP it has to be at least four cores. Besides, with Thuban coming out soon it's probably in AMD's best interest to stop highly clocked X2/X3's from competing with their higher end.

i dont think 140W 3.8ghz quad is possible yet from amd

but i sure as hell would get a tri core 3.8. too many games are only duel core optimized, and that extra 400 mhz will be noticed over a 3.4ghz quad.

Whatever they launch, I think it's pretty clear we need to thank AMD for bringing the battle to the <$200 brice bracket. It will benefit us all.

so the fudzilla chart is way off. the 640 is 3.0ghz with 512kb L2, not 2.8 with 1mb L2?

Is the 800 series chipset coming out this month then too? I saw Fudzilla mention that at the end, but I haven't seen any other site saying so. Looking to build an AMD machine, so I am sure it is worth the wait.

So other than a higher clocked IGP, integrated clock gen, and lack-of-ddr2 support whats the differance with the 800 series chipset?
