Today I had around 5-6 hours to dispose of 20L of LN2 and some HD 5xxx cards. I realised that I would only have time to bench with 1 or two of them, so I had to put the HD 5850 and the HD 5870 aside and focus on the HD 5970. The vmods for this cards are not a secret, but I want to publish all of them in my HD5xxx overclocking article for the first time, so that is why this time they are blured.
Obviously, for today I chose to put the 2 HD5970's under LN2, so I smacked the pots on them and started working. Unfortunately after a few hours I was convinced that something went worng with one of the cards, because I was getting all sorts of artifacts when the system was loading Windows, and Vantage was impposible to run even at stock clocks.
Obviously, after I took the second HD 5970 off the platform the weird behaviour went on, and the system was freezing in one out of 5-6 boot-ups. It took me a while to realise that the problem was the temperature, not the cards. I was working at -70 oC, and this cards could only workproperly up to -20 oC. After this was discovered, everything went much better.
After I have found the proper working temp, I started to look for the optimum vGPU and for the max GPU clocks. For now, with the stock VRM's, the best results are done with 1.35-1.38 vGPU.
The maximum GPU clock I could reach today was 1100MHz, and that is something I have to work on in future sessions. After I got this settled, I took the W3580 up to 5100MHz and started to bench.
Obviously, all the testing I have done up to this point ate most of my LN2, so I had to bench with only a few liters of LN2. Well, with those last liters a WR popped up![]()
Unfortunately, you all know how my luck is, so the validation file for ORB is corrupt. Therefor, th WR is "unofficial"
I tried to squeeze all the LN2 that wasleft in the dewar, but I could not finish another run, in order to get a valid WR, if possible over 30k. That will have to wait for the next session.
