exactly, only on Crysis which favours nvidia cards

also a single 5970 will own those GTX 280's, even more so with newer drivers while use an awful lot less 'leccy.

and the 8 cores are triple channel (actually sextuple channel since it's 3x2) so you'd have 24GB, not 16GB

Hummm Jan 7-8 launch very interesting indeed tough availability may be after half a month or so, but happy they will be putting the hardware out in Jan.

bf:bc2 will be CPU bound not GPU bound, 5870's will probably get 60fps providing you have an i7 and 6GB of ram.

I am doing just that. Regardless of brand, with the large number of DX11 games out now I don't feel the need to upgrade over what I already have.

Actually I am more interested in GPGPU performance so Fermi is more attractive than a 5890.

my 4850 still plays everything fine on 1680x1050 with maximum details and 4xAA.
modern warfare 2 had some slowdowns here and there, but overall everything runs great, atleast these few scenes/situations wouldn't justify a gpu upgrade for 240€ (which is what a 5850 costs in germany - and yet it's not even available anywhere -.-).

so yeah, why not wait for fermi & co? i would understand to jump on the 5800 series bandwagon if current games would run crap on current gen hardware, but this isn't the case (heck, a g80 based graphics card plays most games pretty well still...)... and these few dx11 games didn't impress me with their graphics so far that i'd go out and buy a 5850/5870 just to play them in dx11.
the only thing that impressed me so far is the unigine heaven benchmark. tessellation is godlike there, but nobody knows how this excessive use of tessellation would turn out in games, performance-wise. we have to wait and see. that's exactly what i'm doing right now.

I have time.. I have HD 4770 (OCed a bit).. And well, I don´t know games, which I can´t play due not having enough GPU power?

Means.. I can wait for long time, until Fermi shows or even until HD 6XXX. I don´t expect any new GPU killer games.. it doesn´t seem there will be any.. at least not until they start doing games just for PC and just for DX11.

I'll be waiting for fermi to arrive jsut to see if the price/perf is good enough. I will not be buying a monster card @ monster prices. My 4870 for now does it job nicely.

I would love fermi to bring to the table a competative alternative to ATI. Currently ATI are sat in their throne gouging the prices (still not like Nvidia did with the 8800 in the past).

If they are competative then it comes down to Physx vs eye infinity for me. They are the USPs that the two manufacturers currently have against each other. EI looks like it might have won the day as Bad Company 2 on the PC is now DX11 WITH Eye Infinity design in the engine.

surprising...? gf100 was known to be fastest single card by pretty much everyone anyway... but at what price point.....

and dual fermi = nice..but yet again.. which chips will they actually use i mean.... ati had to scale bag their chips... nvidia will too.. so they gonna stick 2 mid~high (in the middle) chips on a board or what :/

+ 1 .. but i dont think the reason is the hardware... it's more the software/games coming out don't really require anything faster.. until next console's out pretty much which sucks.. i mean I agree ... its very boring.... I ONLY have a 4870 + q6600 @ 3.6 and seriously no need/point to spend a grand on something which will only make a tiny difference.

And, oh, stock HD5850 is faster in Crysis (and most other games) than GTX285, and has much more overclocking room (it can be nearly as fast as a HD5870 when both are overclocked, more than a stock HD5870 in every regard) at a lower price point (at least here, at Spain, I've bought my HD5850 for 225€ with two games, GTX285 is ~300€).

So, much more performance, for less price, and compliance with newer standards like DX11, what are you talking about?

Don't expect Fermi to be much better compared to Cypress than Cypress is compared to GT200... and of course, not for less money.

It's not what is the fastest, it's what is affordable that counts. I'm sure the latest Nvidia offering will be the fastest, whenever it arrives but I don't think it will be as profitable for Nvidia as they will need to lower profit margins to make the price/performance acceptable to the average joe.

Naa one big thing that matters is twimtbp crysis is a part of that. I do think Crysis 2 would be a different beast given Crysis was displayed at AMD's 5870 eyefidelity launch.

Based on a single game rating GPU's as faster or not is not a real bright idea...
