Seeing as this our first showing in a challenge it is likely the first most of these people have even seen of us. We only have one shot at making a good first impression. I know we are crunching as best we can but maybe we could do a little teeny bit more, like hit 7M everyday? If Decrypthon could get their multitudes to leave their PCs on 24/7 we would be toast ... so how do we convince them to try???

Just a suggestion - everyone needs to decide by oneself: to maximize the points the last few days, we should switch to single quorum projects roughly around Dec 14 - but not later than Dec 19. That way we make sure the majority of our returned results is validated.

I will probably run all my current projects ... but thought this is maybe something the anyone wants to consider.

I just checked them out.. pfff, only 10x as many members returning work, they are OBVIOUSLY no match for us

the enemy outnumber us a paltry ten to one, good odds for
any XS cruncher. This day we rescue a world from hunger and disease
and usher in a future brighter than anything we can imagine.
Give thanks, men, to SierraBound and the brave 216!

Here's some discussion, a little bit about us, at HardOCP after the first day results came in:

doubt it.. xtremesystems did a little under 7 million yesterday as well.. just look at the team.. they are in the top 25 in members.. top 5 of total run time.. top 5 of total points.. top 5 of results returned.. also take a look at their avg points.. they have been holding a steady 6 million WCG points or higher since the start of november..

safe to say they are pretty much a hardcore WCG team.. lol but will be fun to see how close we can get to them..

Go check out this thread. It's got lots of funny stuff. And now that I re-read this thread, I think the pic I have linked here is in response to another thread here in the WCG forum. But whatever, it's good stuff, so go look at it.

It's got lots of great motivational posters for crunchers, all should go read through it !

    A quick running-by question :

I don't need to do anything more than just overclock the hell out of the machines, but reasonably, so that they last through december?
Or do I have to sign-up or register or something for this race?

    I hooked up a temporary i7 920 C0 at 4GHz @ 24/7, hope shows its 8 muscles , X3340 (Xeon i5, i7? It has 8 threads ) at 4GHz also, but more like 14/7, sorry I have to use some computer

First off, check out this thread
After you install BOINC, remember to set CPU time to 100%.

Anyways, is it a Xeon 3440? What voltage and multiplier? How about the temps? I have 3 waiting for me to build and I think I might have a hard time overclocking it.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm a WCG vet, I just needed to know whether anything special needs to be done. I already have a couple of machines running and added two Christmas specials one of which will be a 24/7 dedicated cruncher afterwards and it will be the x3440.

It is a sweet chip, C batch but clocks very well. On air, I have set on 20x turbo multiplier and it is Linx stable and crunching at 4GHz and 1,26V, aircooled, at approx. 75°C

agreed, the work matters, the points are secondary to that..

As to that tool that suggested we were hoarding points.
Anyone got his name so that I can slap him upside the head..
I do a manual update on all my machines daily just before the WCG day ends.

EKL Brocken with Panaflo 120x38mm fan at 1600rpm, Arctic MX-2 paste, but keep in mind that I don't have optimal mounting pressure and using a LGA775 hold-down and ambient should be somewhere at 18-19°C. Also, another chip might be far cooler, since this one is a high-leakage piece, OCs well, but I can very clearly feel the hot air coming from the cooler. Shame it hasn't got a higher multi, than I could nicely tame it with could and let it fly in some benchmarks

If say you turn in a WU late what happens? Do you get points? Does the work matter?

Nope, well I think what that dude from [H] meant is we save up all the completed works, and submit a whole weeks worth on WUs at once.
