Nvidia crushes MSI's Lucid - RETRACTED

So, what do we have in the end? Three weeks before the launch of the Lucid based Big Bang Fuzion, the product was killed, and it was 'replaced' with a non-existent Trinergy board. Well, Trinergy exists as photoshopped pixels, and likely a powerpoint or three, but nothing more. The Trinergy is a pale shadow of the Fuzion, and the Nforce 200 is an awful PCIe switch with none of the extras that Lucid brings to the table.

Weeks before, Nvidia told many people that it would not let the Lucid solution live, and on launch day, the Fuzion was killed. Well, technically, it is still alive, but being pushed to Q1 for absolutely no technical reasons is a typical knifing move. How the game works is that a board gets delayed and delayed, and when all eyes are off it, it disappears. If anyone bothers to ask, they get a lame excuse about market conditions or some technical nit that no one can explain. It can't be officially killed on 'launch' day, or else things look bad, but later on usually means no one cares.

What you are seeing is a classic behind the scenes coverup. Lucid has a very interesting product that Nvidia doesn't like, because it threatens Nvidia's noxious SLI tax. The only real question now is whether MSI had its arms twisted or its pockets lined to kill off Lucid based products. Whatever the case, the user loses, and Nvidia unfairly profits. It might have gone unnoticed if it wasn't such an obvious hack job and carried out so badly. And if that isn't a hallmark of Nvidia these days, I don't know what is. S|A

The one that was 'launched', and we use the word launch very carefully, was not the promised Lucid board, but one based on, wait for it, the Nvidia Nforce 200 PCIe decelerator chip.

Just theoratically, what do you think would any manufacturer do if a supplier threatens them to not deliver the goods they need to be competitive if you don't scrap a certain product? And I believe if NVIDIA made MSI scrap their lucid-board it was because of something like that.

I find this completely based on speculation to the highest degree. There is not even a hint of solid evidence that nVidia has got anything to do with this.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. But these are the wrong measures, I think. They should be promoting their brand instead of making their customers hate them, so they can get a good price for their company when they get bought out.

Lucid Hydra is an Intel financed project and gets great support from Intel.
No one can kill Lucid unless it is not ready yet.
Lucid should be more careful about announcing great Big Bang products they cannot deliver.
They lose credibility this way.
Big bang - count down from MSI - Lucid hydra and poof - soap bubbles once again.

I don't know... just thinking in the possibility that if hydra is a success, nvidia nf200 and the Sli cookie are gone for ever, so.. 1 source of income less.

On the other hand i don't think killing 1 motherboard is gonna stop lucid. They sure are pushing with all their might if their product deserves the attention, and more importantly delivers.

So... all in all i don't understand what nvidia is aiming for with this...

Because Nvidia have been a shining pillar in the community recently? Disabling Phys-X when paired with an ATI card. Having code in Batman: AA that disables AA on ATI brand cards. Now possibly this? Shame on them.

Yep, even if it is untrue, NV have been treating us so badly and there PR has an unbeliveble attitude problem. When I can pick up an ASUS 5870 I will, my first ATI card since the 9800

Simple, go with their competitors products. That's the problem with any semiconductor company, they have no balls.

I never hear about them much on here, but I really like MSI video cards. I think I just made my next choice ATI based MSI card. I would love to see MSI go straight ATI For a while and still release that board.
