Dangit, popping MOSFETs...not good news I've read at least one other person (Evilsizer @ OCF) had a failure although I don't know if it was the MOSFETs. What kind of cooling and/or airflow did you have around that area? Would it be helpful to put sinks on those chips? They are pretty small though..

I've been looking around and was really drawn to this board, the combination of features I'll actually use (I don't do multiGPU and I like the slot spacing for very large passive or quiet GPU cooling and my PCIe sound card) and price was perfect. But dying MOSFETs is bad bad. Anandtech said they had theirs running perfectly under (non-xtreme :p) stress and fairly good oc's for a while, maybe they got a cherry board? :-/

I still have i5 750 sitting on table for while...I am also backoff plan to buy Asrock P55 Pro, still looking for better brand of mobo, take my time before I get all info first.

A friend of mine has Asrock P55-PRO for 4-5 days...for start he keeps his 860 at 3.8ghz 1.288v http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=744001 and nothing happened.
I think that it's not a general rule, there are some defective boards...at all manufacurers...Gigabyte, Asrock, and MSI.
I mean even high end P55-UD6 -229$ socket "burn" so...
A good motheboard if you can buy is Asrock P55-EXTREME 139$, the cheapest P55 SLI motheboard.

Tell your friend, what rev board does he have 1.0 or 1.03 for Asrock P55 Pro ?

What bios version do you have now ? did you happen know there is new beta bios F4g might save your board from pop that chip, maybe too late ? take it back for RMA if you can.

thanks for the replies dudes.... firstly i was on this bios, made no difference! but...was sure it was to solve ram compatiblilty issues, my rig is/was a fully ac ryan meshed sides/top a+blockbuster case (large mesh holes so like having case open really) a scythe zip zang 2 cooler which is massive and awas a vast improvement over stock cooling, also this has a huge 140mm fan on top which blows air down and over the top of the chips, the ram i was running was rip jaw 1600mhz (happily runs over 2ghz) , graphics wise a mere gt2 250 for now and psu issues were ruled out (tagan piperock bz 1100w)

i know going by my settings i wasnt over doing it, even when i was tweaking it....

I thought that maybe the MOSFETs were more likely to pop with i7's, more power draw due to HT. But ninjagordy had an i5 This looks to go a little fursther than just the occasional board failure given what the THG article says.

The anandtech article says this board was 'originally designed for OEMs and wasn't meant for retail release' Well, OEMs don't overclock :P So maybe they designed it for basic Intel specs or stock voltage (not AUTO which can sometimes jack voltages) rather than high overclocking specs. So much for 'Ultra Durable 3'

Looks like a FET (or controller? can't really see) blew on each phase of your VR's. That means that you were drawing too much current. I'd bet the board is shorted somewhere if you have it on stock volts. Either that, or it wasn't on stock volts
