While I'm browsing this, quick question for those of you out there who OC their memory (something which I haven't done in the past). I have some Corsair XMS3 8GB DDR3 1600 which is currently running @ 1480 @ 1.63v. I'm going to bump it up to the 1600hz should I be leaving my voltage at ~1.63 or 1.65v? Or maybe even drop it down a bit to 1.6 or 1.58?

I would try 1.65v & raise IMC (1.25-1.3) and PCH 1.15v if your using 8GB
also what are temps like with that zalman cooler? I was using vista x64 and i could clock upto 4ghz on my stock cooler and now ive just finished win7 x64 install i cant get it to 4ghz anymore. I need a better cooler ive purchased a Zalman CNPS9500A LED just waiting for the 1156 bracket to be released or i might go with corsair H50.

Thanks for the response, I'll try what you suggesting and see how stable I can get @ 1600mhz.

As for the Zalman, I love it. I've had a TRUE 120, MUX 120, and honestly I like this cooler the best. By far, at least in my opinion anyways, Zalman has the best mounting brackets and imho provides better/quieter cooling because of this. I always had trouble getting a good mount on my TRUE and MUX120.

As for the temps, my brother and I both have a Core i7 860, though he has the Intel DP55KG. Both of our stock temps hover around 29-33C and this is in a room where the ambient temp is between 70-85F (California). Overclocked @ 3.6ghz my temps are stable at 38-42C idle and 55-57C max under load which is quite nice. 3.6ghz has been my 24/7 OC for my past 3 rigs now, but it may be 3.8ghz since the temps are so manageable and safe.

I'm now tweaking it to find the sweet spot that I'd like to run 24/7. I'll edit this post later with my detailed BIOS settings.
Have a look at the voltages when on "AUTO"!! I found out, that my board gives 1.5V to my CPU on 20x200 when voltage is on "AUTO"!!
I also was happy that it was that "easy" to overclock with that board on "AUTO", but I don't want to fry my CPU

Yes the voltages really get bumped up when using Auto. I'd done 3.8Ghz asa first clock on my 1st I7-860 with ram at 1600Mhz , auto used 1.36v i think it was

That's about 0.14v more than the max i've needed :-

    damm, i have P7P55D mobo, and i7-860.
at stock speeds computer works about 1hour, then it totally freezes, and red cpu led starts shining after reseting.. sounds pretty weird. i have 2x1gb a-data 1600+ extreme edition memorys and i hope those memorys are reason for that problem?
It does same thing, if i have only 1module installed. dual channel or not, it still freezes.

How about that memory controller, what is integrated in cpu, is it possible that it is broken?

That's pretty rough 0lta, what settings ate you using? chances are your ram defaults to 1333, unless you have over ridden ram multi ?
Yes memory controller is on cpu.

well, default settings by bios. After that red cpu led started burning, i cant get my system up again, i have to clear cmos, and wait about 15mins.. then it boot up again.
Well, i will test those 1333 settings next, what u told me to do, and i will inform u later did it help.
I ordered new gskill ripjaws memorys today and i hope i get those on next week, so i can test my setup with those different memorys.
I hope i can test my cpu on my friend's mobo, same kind of board that what i have, so then i can be sure if that problem is on my cpu. (and maybe i test my memorys witht that mobo too)

But, let's see what we learn..

aye well hopefully , it's just you ram that's the issue. That would be best result.

Yes they play really well, best ram i've had for a while. I got the 2nd kit as i've got used to runnning with 6gb on my x58 & windows 7 64. So it made sense to go to 8gb. Not pushed on to 2000yet though on 8gb.

Well, I think the Vcore is a tad too high...I'm still looking for the right settings, but 4GHz out of a 2.66GHz chip ain't too shabby on air (Thermalright Ultra120-Extreme)...
Here are my other voltages for 20x200:

    IMC-Voltage: 1.25
    DRAM-voltage: 1.65
    CPU PLL: 1.80
    PCH-voltage: 1.05
    CPU-Differential Voltage: 1000mV
    CHA DATA: 0.525
    CHB DATA: 0.525

    Just in case anyone cares

a quick note about BIOS 0606. Manually setting the CPU multiplier to 21 is the same as enabling Turbo. The option for Turbo disappears in the BIOS, but if C-STATE C6 is enabled the multiplier will still increase to 24 during a Super PI run.

So at this time there appears to be no way to enable C-STATE C6 and also use the 21 multiplier without it still increasing to 24.

if you have manual selection of the CPU multiplier, turbo is hidden from view.

If the CPU multiplier is set to Auto, turbo will increase the multiplier to 21 or up to 24 if C-STATE C6 is enabled.

If the CPU multiplier is manually set to 21, turbo is enabled automatically, which is not an issue unless you wish to use C-STATE C6 and not have the multiplier increase to 24.

if you have manual selection of the CPU multiplier, turbo is hidden from view.

    Thanks for that info!!
But I think will stick with manual multi at 20x200

Supershanks, are you running the ripjaws on your 1156 rig? you mentioned 2 different kits in your thread. the timings you have are tighter than what mine default, did you trial and error those, or were they recommended?

I'm getting ready to work on tightening up the memory at 1.60V, and was looking for some shortcuts
