How can they be bought when there's no shops selling them atm? Talk about fallacious logic...

Pardon my ignorance, as I have not waited for a card launch date before. But, I had thought the launch would be similar to that of a console system, where retailers have the product stocked and ready for "launch day", but have to wait until the manufacturer's specified time before making them available for purchase. So apparently launch date actually means what, again?

found this at Hardocp. Guy asks, what happened to the shipment of 5870's? Response: "Nvidia intercepted them and rebranded them as Geforce cards ... True story."

reason, suspense is to high currently.
    This is probably true.
I preordered from one place, and they told me they would get cards on 23rd at first, but then they said they would get them on 29th.

And I like XFX card's looks best so far.

I got a question, do all the 5870s either its the 1/2gig have the backplate?
Just asking because I see the pics of the people that already have the cards, and somehow they tend to not show the back of the card, so cant tell if they have it or not.

But sometimes from an angle it looks like they don't have it, so I'm wondering if only a specific version like the 2gig, will only have it?

hope newegg will have full set of pictures when the cards go on sale, I really hope that all standard 1 gig 5870s have it, or might have to wait till the 2 gig comes out.

The 1GB cards have the backplate, 2GB cards do not. Not sure why, but do clearly remember reading this. Sorry I can't link a source as I'm a little tied up at the moment.

    ASUS HD5870,DVI,DVI,HDMI,DP,1G,DDR5,ENGINE CLOCK: 850MHZ, MEMORY CLOCK:4.8GHZ, MEMORY EAH5870/G/2DIS/1GD5

Ordered mine . I saw a site with the 5870 Sapphire for $390 shipped but it was a no-return policy other than warranty service, and I don't ever hear good things about Sapphire's warranty. I paid $430 shipped for this Asus card.

you payed $81 more than the retail price to pre-order it?

is that $81 really worth it?
