NEED TO RAGE MORE. The following not for young eyes.

PIECE OF SCYTHE ING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Better not have messed up ANYTHING or I swear to god I will KILL IT!!!!!!

In other news, I am probably leaning towards the Aquero and getting the flow meter etc that goes with it. It has hardware shut down on any kind of failures that are programmed right into it, which is definitely a win for me. The TMS is nice, but I'd love to have an LCD screen.

Sorry 'bout the troubles. I'm happy with the aquaero. Know I won't be going back to the Scythe fan controllers anytime soon - just too delicate.

Silver TJ07 + water cooling + purple coolant = win. You just did all my favorite things in one computer. Now I'll have to copy you...

Ugh, my previously linx stable 20 passes overclock is now not stable... WTF, I'm so pissed off that stupid ing fan controller has ruined my system. does anyon know anything i can do, to check what else has been ed up by this? i mean, i've obviousy degraded the CPU some now because of the overheat.... what else should I check?

That sucks Maybe you could get some RMAs done.

I just want to check what and if anything else is ed... I wish i could tell what temperature everything got to, but i can only tell by what i touched and the general feeling in the case (HOT). But i can imagine some air cooled systems would get that hot easily though...

From what I've read, it's not heat that kills a CPU, it's electromigration.

CPU's are faced with extreme heat at the fabrication.

Actually a very knowledgeable friend of mine reckons the PWMs may have been fried.... Does ANYONE else have anything they can add? How can I troubleshoot? Help!!! HALP!!!

Hey Nat ... sorry about all the issues. Okay, from what I understand, your issue is the fan controller went belly up and you didn't notice the fans weren't running until it was hot - but it didn't shut down - you got the blue screen, then all Hell broke lose (just imagining your reaction).

Now, you aren't able to get the same OC you had before? Does it run okay at stock settings? Just trying to sort out which trouble shooting steps you've gone through so far.

I know you want to know if anything is damaged ... have you definitively identified any other problems yet?

Yep, it's random as well Shaz. basically the first time I tried linx testing it after last night, it got to 18 passes, and i had just moved my mouse to click on PC probe to look at mobo temps and as I did that it BSOD again. I was like, WTF was that me or did it properly fail (CPU temps using real temp were beautiful at just over 60 degrees)? So I did it again, it didn't even finish one pass before it BSOD. So I said, WTF you have to be kidding me you got to 18 passes last time. So I tried linx again, and this time it did 3 passes and then just failed (no BSOD that time). So I spoke to my computer guru guy here, who thinks I've fried the PWMs. It would make sense if it isn't regulating voltage properly for it to almost pass linx one time, and then fail before the first pass the second right?

Anyways, it has passed linx fine at stock settings. But stock settings is not why I bought this overclockers motherboard, and the bloody Xeon CPU. I am not 100% sure the CPU is fine, but my guru thinks that CPUs can take punishment, the only thing that could possibly be damaged is the memory controller. He wants me to try putting it in a friends motherboard and seeing if I can still run it at 4.2ghz 1.28v. But I have to find a friend with i7 first, I only know of one acquaintance.

Anyways, my guru reckons I should RMA the motherboard at the very least, he reckons it is damaged, whether the CPU is also damaged remains to be seen. What I don't understand though, is that I don't reckon this stuff got as hot as it could have if it was just being air cooled. I mean, the pump was still running, it was still pushing the water round, and while the water had got hot, surely it would have been helping somehow? Obviously not I suppose, it's f*cked But I touched the CPU block straight after, it was bloody hot, but not burning hot, as in, I could hold my fingers on it. But as soon as I took the side off the case I knew it was ridiculously hot in there, and i was FFFFUUUUUUUUUing, and rushing around getting a big fan to blow on everything to cool it down etc. etc.

But get this, between those linx tests, I ran Vantage, and I got a higher score than the last time I ran it. WTF? I'm assuming my video cards are all fine in that case? I wasn't watching closely enough, but would I see artifacting if the vid cards were unhappy?

PS... F*CK THAT SCYTHE FAN CONTROLLER TO HELL! I wish I'd listened to you Shaz when you said you wouldn't use it again after it didn't work for you either. Ugh. Why do I never listen?

PPS... Do you use an aquero and does it do hard shutdowns if fans/pumps/flow stops?
    sigh

I'm no hardware expert, but I'd guess you're friend is right. Problem is probably somewhere on the motherboard not the CPU. Sounds like the GPUs are fine, as you would see some artifacting or shutdowns if they were damaged.

I'd try the following before doing the RMA, if you haven't already:

    1) Take out the memory ... reseat it. Maybe try one stick at a time.

    2) Remove the CPU ... reseat it

    3) And, obviously, sounds like you have already gone back to stock BIOS settings and redone your OC. Did you go up gradually in steps, or jump right back to 4.2? Just curious.

    4) While this has nothing to do with anything, when I'm desparate, I always take out the Motherboard battery, let it sit for a few hours, then start over. Sounds crazy, but it's helped once or twice.

    5) And finally, if you can verify your CPU is fine (even if you can't), I'd get ready to RMA that motherboard.

What will removing and reseating those things do Shaz? I don't see why it would make a difference? Sorry I'm not trying to say it isn't worth doing, just questioning what that does that's all... I hadn't tried to redo the OC, just had it at the settings that previously worked perfectly. Then just dropped it straight back to stock and haven't changed it at all since.
    sigh

Wow, that is an incredible build!!...just finished looking at the pics.

btw...it is not unusual to fail linx at 18th pass once, then fail it much earlier if run quickly afterwards. Also not that unusual after a while to require 1 or 2 notches higher qpi/vtt or vcore to once again be stable after first getting cpu, then it usually stays stable, several of mine have done that, even ones I havent abused. In testing cpus for realtemp, I have had both my i7's running with nothing attached to IHS, typically it shuts itself down around 115 to 120C core and ~110C IHS. If temp rises slowly, sometimes will shut off lower temps if throttling fails. Have pretty much done that with most of my cpus without issue. Also doubt motherboard got any hotter than running on air as you mentioned. I have ran mine quite a bit without fans, crashing cpu/gpu many times...just playing with temps, and watching how cpu consumes more watts at same settings as temps increased (cpu is less efficient with power as temps increases). Never hurt anything on mine...yet anyways.

I would first try bumping up vcore couple notches and if that did not help, then qpi/vtt, before breaking everything down to rma, etc.

Also you can set real temp to shutdown pc if gpu temps or cpu temps get too high, whatever you set them at.

And I also have had issues with my scythe controller, one of the best simple feature wise and love the lcd readout, but even though it says it is rated for 1 amp, the crappy components get very hot and fry easy with much less than that. I wish sunbean's extreme reliable one came with rpm readout/lcd screen.

LOL ... remember - I said I'm no expert. So, I can't say any of these will "fix" it. Just the things I've tried in the past when I thought I killed something (where I do have some expertise ). Also gives you something productive to do instead of sitting there fuming
