i have notice this same behavior on my P5Q... high load fully stable but random idle and low load instability with LLC enabled. with LLC disabled (and a slight vcore bump) the problem goes away.

I am a victim to this as well.. I have observed this several times... Eventhough without LLC you need more more vcore to get your CPU to the same overclock it has the following advantages from my experience with it
    1. Lower temps for the same overclock in Prime/IBT
    2. Lower power nos as reported by my APC UPS
    3. Finally stability during idle mode and avoids some random BSODs. Peace of mind

This problem is already fixed in the new BIOS releases. When it still doesn't stay stable with LLC enabled the problem is the hardware.

I'm not really sure if it's the board or the CPU that makes it unstable with LLC enabled. I still have this problem with my Q9450 and my board. I don't have this problem with a 90nm CPU.

The problem is with the board, not the CPU, and it only applies to 45nm CPUs. If you have this problem on a Rampage Formula, you need to RMA the board, a BIOS update won't fix it.
