Quite the change from the SLI/CF "fix" and all the other wonders it could do. Maybe not vaporware, but surely hypeware.

Ok so when will we mortals have Lucid Hydra on our motherboards?![]()

Plug that into a laptop. External GPU's FTW.
All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.
But screw this freaking cloud rendering crap!! I hope this OnLive and the like fail hard!!

just because a lot of people can't afford a 'rig' to game with, doesn't mean they should be able to play pc video games. and if this tech does take off, there is no reason you would have to take part. though i can see this "cloud gaming" idea as a huge job oppertunity for those of us that know how to tune a computer to play games.
back on topic, i too am waiting for the day when i can buy a mobo with a hydra chip onboard. the irony will be discovering that games run best with one ati card and one nvidia card.![]()

finally my dream coming true a external gpu paired with small note book![]()
We won't see a HYDRA chip until 6 months after they release DirctX11.
Lucid is probably working on that right now, because currently they are DX9 only. Though, it doesn't matter when, because when it does happen, SLI and XFire will be gone. Near 100% scaling would be too ridiculous to pass up.
so yea, im not buying the hype. maybe good for some specific apps, but i dont see it used for gaming.

The reason OnLive is being pushed is to enforce stricter DRM. It will be a worse experience than playing on a slower PC with medium settings due to the input lag. And it will all but kill off the need for XtremeSystems if it takes off and gains popularity. Who would want expensive fast hardware anymore when you can play on your netbook?

wha? welcome to 2008? 0_o
they started shipping those in december iirc...
wow, you really have no idea what hydra really is??? hahaha
go do your homework before trashing it man
indeed fun when reality kicks in

Tell you guys right now, Hydra is not at all going to be one of those things mentioned and then disapears. The tech is there, and the idea is too big to not go anywhere.
The tech has been proven, who cares how, or with what cards. The point is, it has 100% been proven and demoed to work. Which means its only a matter of time before it is improved and marketed, too big of a thing not to be.
Not saying i believe in time travel, bust as an example. If scientists were able to say, send a quarter back in time and prove they did. Thats a huge thing, and a huge proven thing, its only a matter of time before the tech is improved, and Hydra isnt time travel, and it isnt rocket science either. This is too big to just disapear, if it gets to that point, a random company will pick it up, this tech will only continue to improve with somebody's money.
The Hydra is inevitable, the only question here is when.

and you would be right, unless of course, hydra has some magic software that can use 2 graphics drivers at once, but this is highly improbable on an operating system that has trouble with 2 installed. 3rd party drivers would due the trick though, sorta. But that is hardly supported nor proven possible...so...its one of those things, thats kinda up in the air at this point. More leaning towards no.
Whats known for shure at this point, is that the hydra chip can work with a variation of any card, supported by the one graphics driver installed on the machine. So supposedly, take an nvidia driver, pull up a list of cards supported for that driver, and you can use any variation, roughly, of those. Though quality im shure will come into play at a variation too far apart, to a degree.

Whelp.....it will be interesting if this HYDRA ever materializes on a MB as an add-on chip. It has the possibility of turning multi-gpu rendering on it's head from the proprietary formats of SLI / CF. Windows 7 has no problem with 2 different vid cards and their individual drivers. I can use an ATI card for my main graphics card and use nVidia for PhysX. This chip could finally bring a usable multi-gpu graphics solution that is truly independent of nVidia or ATI/AMD software. I have been watching the news about this one for the past year or so. Still hypeware/vaporware for the enthusiast though.

Well you might have understood wrong from someone who didnt understand themselves. Cause what I said came out of Lucid's mouth. The many surfaced interviews and showcases by Lucid explained it as being exactly as I have here. The ATI/Nvidia at the same time thing, is more or less made up hype.
Its kind of impossible if you think about it. Nvidia nor ATI would never let Lucid right drivers supporting both cards for rendering purposes. Rights are involved in that case. They would both do anything to stop it, and both succeed as well
