miah you guys rock
hopefully we all go through next year so we can have another decibel record of kinds and no one to kick us out
Miahallen was just waaaay too funny. Even during the competition itself, these guys cracked me up:
" Aaaah, now I see the problem, we are just two dumbasses "![]()

I'm home now aswell and have gotten some sleep. Big congrats to Charles and Eric, you came more prepared for the Vantage and that made a difference. We can't really blame anything but us being a bit stupid/naive. We got really confused about your lowered clockspeeds in the screenshot. Other than that we had a little problems with the throttling on the graphics cards due to running to cold aswell as not realizing how much difference the memory did in GT2.
What massman says about the efficiency being part of the score is interesting. First I figured it'd be nice but still there is the possibility that you sacrifice some performance for higher clockspeeds.
Finally big thanks to Phillipe, Tim, Rita, Crystal, Bessie and all the others in the Gigabyte staff for another awesome event. I hope it's possible to go next year aswell, it was great to meet all the overclockers again and some for the first time!

Sorry, yes ... I may have expressed myself not good enough to explain what I meant.
A while ago, Trouffman and I were discussing the rules for the MSI MAO competition because of the recent discussion regarding people winning a competition because they have the highest clocks. In other words: luck determines the outcome of the competition.
Now, when we were benching at GOOC, you said: "We are 3 seconds behind you with 100MHz less, too bad we don't get points for efficiency". And THAT got me thinking. Basicly, T. and me were trying to figure out how to fit in an efficiency-based ranking into a high-end extreme overclocking competition like GOOC or MAO, but there's no solid way to implent it. In short, similar to the GPU score ranking in 3D: less points.
But ... efficiency is already taken into account in the CPU benchmarks. I mean, Thomas and I deliberatly chose to cripple the efficiency and go for higher cpu clocks by switching some settings. The reason why yours looked so efficient was not only because of your tweaking, but also because we opted for the non-efficient raw-power method. Actually, if we hadn't made that decision, our score would've been 2nd or 3rd since there was no way we could run our memory higher than 1GHz. In the first set-up phase of the live competition, we ran 1M stable upto 5634MHz; 32M was only stable upto a low 5.5G (I remember telling the Australian team something was up because of the very little difference between 1M and 32M stability).
To sum up: YES, it's possible that very bad chips determine the outcome of a competition, but NO, I don't think that's always the case. The only way to know for sure is to have all chips tested by the same person using the same hardware/bios tweaks. But, as long as the cpu's are +/- matched OR you have the chance to increase your luck by having multiple chips to test, an efficiency ranking is actually not needed since it's already a part of the 32M competition. It's all about the choices you make during the competition and, to be honest, I'd rather not see an extra competition forcing you to choose one route (efficiency) over another one (raw power).
By the way, the chip we tested is a good one, but far from super-cherry. I just heard the chip can't do 5.5G on another brand of motherboards and Vantage was only stable at 5.15G. We tried 5.2G, but no go.
It's all about the method one choses to take
//edit: just re-read this post and it's still missing a lot of thoughts ... please ask to elaborate on certain points if you want me to.

Hey guys... just landed in Jakarta few hours ago. It was really nice meet with you all the great overclockers. GIGABYTE once again did a great job for Overclocking Community, and congrats to Fugger and Vapor as the Champion of GOOC 2009. Looking forward to see you all again in the next OC event
