Do I need biocide if I use distilled water?

I had just distilled in my loop for a bit, nothing else, and stuff grew in my drain line

I bought some PT nuke over a year ago, still have some left. Only takes 1 or 2 drops.

And how long before the plating wears off? I wouldn't trust those barbs to last more than a year at the most.

I've got 20 EK barbs at home that the plating came off of. These barbs were used for a little over a year, with distilled water + 2 drops of PTNuke in each loop. Why did they eventually wear off?

Left is the barb that the plating came off on. Barb on the right is one that was never used from the same batch.

Silver Dimes (1964 and Earlier) are in the 90% silver area.

Not sure how well it would work, but I think if you had a few of them it would be fine, I could be wrong,
