I have a backplate that came with my Rocketfish case. It is labled as a Nocona mounting plate. It looks like the one from Performance PC's. If so looks like I am set for that.

yes, Rocketfish is Lian Li and their plate works fine. I have one in my Lian Li PC62 that came with my G70 case..

Those X5270's are nowhere near 80w , I'm sure .
More around 65-70w

My E5450's are also rated 80w and that's quadcore.

And the X5482's are 150w..
Can't compare E's and X's..
I really do have to try those chips though..
10.5 multi..times say 440?..

What i did was remove the orginal backplate then insert the white strip (from original backplate) on the new backplate.

Listen to Dave, the CEK springs are there for a reason. It keeps the pressure even across the socket ensuring proper contact between the heatsink and the cpu die. Leave the paper and the springs there, then screw down the heatsinks to the backplate.

In my case I didn't need a backplate because I'm using an Intel chassis that has stand offs in the right place.

Oh yeah, and it seems that the IO shield for the SE7520BD2 ought to work for this board, though I'm double-checking before I buy.

Sorry, was on the phone.
Leave the board as it comes.
Leave the paper, it won't harm anything and these are low temp cpu's.. No fire hazzard.
I had one in a case with that paper there for months and no issues..
Now as to the Lian Li back plate two ways to go, easy or hard..
1) easy, put in behind board before putting board in case and just screw the heatsinks into it.
2) hard:
find and properly place that back plate to the motherboard tray and then mount with 4 tiny screws to motherboard tray using the two top and bottom offset holes..
I did this, takes time to properly set that piece.
Now way #1 is fine because the HS in question are light aluminum and when screwed to that backing plate distribute the weight so no issues.
Your choice on this.

Just ordered the IO shield and some compatible memory. Now I'll have to sell off my old memory on eBay, what a pain...

Good luck Gongo,hopefully the 2gb and 1gb sticks I got will not be a problem- I grabbed the ones you suggested from the selller on eBay. I am sure they will be oK and I have not taken them out of there bags yet. I am sure the Kingstons you ordered will work; and I understand the shedding situation- I have an always shedding German shepherd!!!

Yeah, my 2gb single rank Elpidas... of the 8 sticks, only 2 work in this board. They worked fine with the Supermicro board, so I don't know what's going on.

I do have a cat (she's shedding and there's hair everywhere in my room because she likes to sleep on my bed) and the weekend that I was building Sammy2 I was sick so I was shuffling around the house in my thick socks... maybe I shocked some of the sticks in the process?

I noticed on the Intel tested memory list that nearly all of the 2gb modules they tested are dual rank, which is kind of surprising seeing that the SE7520BD2 was tested with single ranked 2gb dimms. Maybe the OEMs didn't need it or care?

Anyway, once I get my memory (I ordered 4 sticks of KVR400D2S8R3/1GI, just to be safe) I'll ship my old sticks out to my brother to test in Sammy1 to make sure I didn't fry them. If they work, he'll keep them and if not then I guess I'll make keychains or something.

Just a little bummed that these sticks worked great in the X6DLP-EG2, but the SE7520BB2 doesn't like them. Maybe I'll try the freezer trick, see if it actually works...

I thought you said as long as the ram are label as "single rank" or 1rx4" then it should work with the intel board... Am i missing something here?

This is the stuff i'm using in sammy.2 and sammy.3. Works like a champ. Not 100% sure what the original Sammy has in it.
