Nah, only AM3 CPUs go in AM3 boards.

great job in getting gigabyte to change their terrible color cominations hicookie!

i think baby blue/turqoise isnt that nice, but it looks so much better than their previous boards! and the heatsink looks nice too

    ranosb, you need a 945, 940 is ddr2 only, 945 is ddr3 and ddr2.
every xx5 cpu from amd supports ddr3 and ddr2, if you buy a ddr3 board like this one you need an xx5 cpu, if you use a ddr2 board then you can buy a xx0 or xx5 cpu, but id recommend you a xx5 anyways so you can upgrade to ddr3 with a new board and dont have to buy a new cpu again

Don't forget that "xx5 rule" only applies to the 9 series.. So 9x5

    X4 810 , X3 710, 720 are all DDR3 supporting AM3.

Can anyone explain why Gigabyte's motherboards are not full ATX ie 9.6" wide. why 9" only, less space between CPU socket and RAM slots, see P45 UD3 series, Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer doesnt fit due to this, so annoying. Why not follow standards of ATX 12.6x9.6". This reduces chances of GPU covering SATA ports and better IDE/ATX 24pin placement (good spacing from RAM slots).

Way to go, this thread is 5 months old!
As for your question, i think the Phenom II x4 955 (3.2GHz) is the one to get: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103674,
or you can wait for the 965 (3.4GHz) which should be available soon (but might be outside your budget).

    Oh, and welcome to XS!

This board (no matter how awesome) simply doesn't matter one bit...

I just will never own a Powder Blue motherboard, ever! I have no idea what Gigabyte is thinking with their color schemes, but they are the worst in the industry.

Man.. I thought that thread was familiar, way to necro a 4 month old thread dude. People don't like that crap bro.

The GA MA790FXT-UD4P is just as good & cheaper, maybe worth going for that - better value.

lol who really gives a %$%^ what colour the board is etc it's not a fashion accessory, by the time the GTX 295, X-Fi, Thermalright 120 xtreme black & ram theirs not much to see gawp at anyway.

Who gives a crap what the motherboard looks like, anyone would think you wear it, do you people just stir at your motherboards all day lol - Motherboard fashion victims lmao.
