Sorry for your loss, The RAM is rated at 2.3v so it should have been alright but personally I would always use active cooling & I would have throttled the vdimm back as far as I could once I got the rig stable before pounding it with Prime95.

Now you've learnt the hard way, you wont do that again will you

I actually kept it @ 2.1 to 2.27. I think the ram might have been bad from the get go as I had so many issues when I first built the rig. To be honest I abused the crap out of my first set and they are still running strong.... As for active cooling I have a 150cfm delta pulling across the ram and enough 90 cfm fans in the case fans to blow the curtains in the window behind the case up the wall.

Now I have tested different settings for Skews, and anything between 300 and 500 gives opportunity to boot at fsb498, while not possible otherwise. I also noticed that my core nr 1 and 4 are the strongest, while core nr 2 and 3 are weaker. So I have to sets of cores on the same level each. What I did was to try and change GTL values for cores in pairs. Ended up with GTL1:0.67, GTL2:0.63, GTL3: 0.63 and GTL4: 0.67. The result is: before, core 2 and 3 errored while priming at fsb495, after, all 4 cores priming with no errors. I still get random crashes and BSODs at fsb495

Can anyone test if the things I mentioned in the last two posts work for you guys to get more stability on the edge? I still feel like there is no recepy for stable 500 on fsb, but I think I will use what I learned so far when going for higher CPU speeds

Wow, not bad. Did you hit the wall yet? Or there is still some room for more?

It is about a week or more til I get to play with a E8600 in my board

Edit: Where did every one go? So quiet here lately.

roedzzz, getting my hopes up here, lol

Can you go higher? Looking at your ram my guess would be that it is hard enought as it is, hehe. I stand between 2GB of OCZ reaper 9200 and Flex 9200, dont know what to get for high fsb attempts. My 4GB stops at 1120MHz, and i dont want to push it.

Btw, I am sitting at bios version 10/07/2008. Is there a better bios that would give me an advantage of some sort? Or is there noe point in updating?

Right now it appears that 10-07-08 is the only bios out.

What ram chips complement this board the best? I read that they're rather picky on rams..

Any major changes with this bios? I generally stay away from beta's.

Hi!...I am probably ordering mine tomorrow...just don't tell my wife.

    Questions:

    1) What is the best reference for the different BIOS settings. There are a lot of them, and each manufacturer seems to define them a little different.

    2) Is the memory, which has an analog Buck converter, 1 phase or 2 phase?

    3) Does the northbridge or power require any additional cooling? Do you need to move a lot of air in the case? My CPU and usually my video is watercooled.

I expect to run it with my Q6700, 4x2gb Corsair 1066 5-5-5-15 memory, and 1 or 2 1gb 4850 graphics cards. The CPU and the cards are watercooled with Dtek blocks and a Thermochill PA120.3, shroud, and 3 Noctua P12 fans. The rad is positioned sideways to give 1+ft clearance on either side.

    Thanks in advance!

    1) What is the best reference for the different BIOS settings. There are a lot of them, and each manufacturer seems to define them a little different.

    DFI Official BIOS guide: http://img.lanparty.tw/Upload/Catalo...45T2R_BIOS.pdf

    2) Is the memory, which has an analog Buck converter, 1 phase or 2 phase?
Honestly don't know, Is it important?

I would ask over at the official DFI support forum, someone over there will know. If you find out don't forget to let us all know here please.

    3) Does the northbridge or power require any additional cooling? Do you need to move a lot of air in the case? My CPU and usually my video is watercooled.
Personally I would say if you are going to OC it then I would but stock ish should be fine without. I have a slow quiet fan on both my NB & PWM & the temps are kept in the low 40's with both my dual core & quad core.

I also always cool my RAM, HD's & have a couple case fans going so 2 more make no difference to me.

I've been playing around with this board for a few weeks now, and while there were (still are to be honest) some parameters I don't understand nor know what they pertain to, I've got a pretty good handle on the board itself and have gotten my old, yet reliable Q6600 to 3.6.

I'm still aiming for the 3.87 I was able to get on the X38 (Maximus Formula), but one thing I've noticed is in order to get the same frequencies achieved on the X38 on the P45 requires a bit more voltage.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed this as well?

I've been struggling with this board today... and I've been getting plenty of "C1" messages on the LED display after a failed overclock attempts. Does anyone know what that means?

In my experience: Insufficient Memory and/or North Bridge volts

I have been getting plenty of C1 errors myself over the times. C1 is usually memory related, either your memory is over the limit, or NB is on the limit. Talking both from experience, and what I red at DFI forum.

    Thanks guys,

That info should be helpful when I get back on this board.

I should be getting my board on Monday. I expect to run it with a Q6700 and 8gb of Corsair 5-5-5-15 DDR 1066 memory.

Would one of you nice posters want to volunteer a good initial setup? The processor has run 10x360 on a motherboard that wouldn't run over 360 reliably, not even 6x365. The memory has been very finicky above 1066; however that may be a function of memory power stability.

    Recomendations?

    Thanks in advance!

P.S. The CPU and eventually the GPU will be water cooled. If necessary, the power circuit, northbridge, and southbridge could also be watercooled. It will have a 1000w PSU, probably a Corsair, maybe a Cooler Master, depending on which case it ends up in.

This board is being a stubborn pain in my arse, I can get 3.6 stable, but I have yet to get anything else stable. I know for a fact my quad is capable of 3.87 @ 1.5125v, although as recent procedures have proven that would equate to 1.53-something on this board...but nonetheless it's finnicky about the settings used and I'm running low on patience...

Not really, but I am getting annoyed having to restart and bump up a specific parameter every five minutes. Anyone have any luck with this board using a quad?

Edit: Another thing, anyone know if two blocks I brought for the Maximus Formula awhile back (when it worked) will fit on this board? It appears to line up but I really don't feel like taking the board out and measuring just to have wasted time.

    Hey guys quick update here:

the T3RS here has some pretty good abilities from what I have seen so far. ONE BIG problem though: NONE of the ram straps work whatsoever on release BIOS. the only ram strap that works above 1333 is AUTO lol. You might say "but isn't auto one of the selectable straps?" well yes and no, it appears to be the same as 333/1333 strap however, if you have a working prime stable setup with auto ram strap and you change it to manual 333/1333 strap you get the dreaded C1 . Even the working auto strap is very finicky and has limited me to 425-428FSB depending on latencies, at 429 it wont work and I have tried jumping around above that number as CAS 10 and an x7 multi with no luck whatsoever

Tomorrow I am going to try the beta bios and we will see if they have managed to make a DDR3 bios with strats that actually WORK!

for only 425 FSB and CR2 this board handles itself quite nicely (PL7), need to bring up the copy somehow

My Q9650 runs just as well on my DK as it does on my LT, 470 ~ 485fsb is about its prime max depending on how much tweaking you want to do.

Gotta love the slightly out of context quote ay....

looks good & I'm sure once you find some fsb the copy will come up.

I've seen people display very neat lists of the BIOS settings. How do they get them? Is their a utility that prints them?
