we're the same. i also wrecked 2 good chip e8400 by upping the pll voltage to 1.75v for hitting 600fsb on P35. the chip died in less than 5mins without doing some benchmarks or anything. i don't know if it's connected with a higher vtt. but i think P45 is a different story. i saw some benchmark using high pll voltage & i think they never had that problem. but i'm still afraid getting the pll voltage up even on P45 because of that bad experience![]()
i know this is the ut thread ...but does anyone know about the new blood iron..good..bad...there,s now reviews out that i could find on it
i7 920 4.2ghz..6gb 1600mhz cas 7 memory..Windows 7 Ultimate Edition..Windows XP..650 watt PS..Water..3DFX Voodoo 3
Where has it crashed, what fft & does it always crash there?
I also find setting the GTL Buffer Strength to weak helps my chip.
I have seen plenty of people using high PLL & getting away with it but I'm not taking any chances. P45 may be different & I have very briefly tried upping the PLL on this UT P45 with my quad to see if it could stabilise 500 x 9 which it didn't so luckily for me I should have no reason to run PLL at anything higher than stock.
For anyone interested the PLL & VTT measure points are measured on the chip marked SK12 directly behind the yellow SATA ports. The D6 side of the chip is PLL & the other VTT.

Nice clock but I was just hopping the P45 had a better PWM design able to support Quads power amount. Looks like they still kept the fragile design used on the X38 and X48 series (for economic reasons), this is really a pity as they work wonders for Duo's but can't scale with Quads.
Those Q9650 are really comfortable along the 500fsbx9 line with aircooling so not to use this amount of extra power is just a waist.
But in any case if you're generally happy with 460-480fsb the DFI's are solid stable with low amount of volts but they will just fail above that.
Thanks for the effort CN!
Thule you are far away from the GTL Ref settings on your chip, you are using 45nm Quad GTL Ref on a Duo chip browse around DFI Forum and the DFI X48 Thread to discover the optimum GTL Ref for your cpu.
I would do what CN is asking you back it up a little and start from there![]()

@ Jor3lBR,
The boards not a slouch with a quad in any way but it still cant out do any of its predecessors P35, X38, X48 etc.
I see other boards making 500fsb with a quad but I don't see the masses holding 500 stable.
I don't think the issue is the PWM there may or may not be an issue with the PWM that I'm not aware of but for me the issue of quads not scaling up like for arguments sake the UD3 has more to do with the "CPU Clock Amplitude". My board/quad needs this to be increased from 800 to 900 to even boot over 475fsb & it needs it upped again to 1000mv to go past 500fsb.
I don't know if its a hardware limitation or even if 1000mv is insane & likely to kill a chip or not but I sure would like to pump a bit more to see what happens.
Oh... & 460 ~ 480fsb is plenty for daily use but if 500+ is available on the UD3 then it'll be a UD3 I'm ordering simple as.

I am getting one of those boards soon, and looking for a CPU for it. I am thinking something like E8500 or a QX9650.
Yes, the QX is very expensive, but I found a used one for like half the price. Still expensive but is it worth it to buy a QX for this board? Or will I not be able to discover its potential? I mean the multi is unlocked, so I should have no trouble reaching like 5GHz on water, right? Or is something else holding quad back on those boards besides low multies?

E8500 works well but as for the QX the honest answer is I don't know as I've not had or seen a QX on this board yethint hint
I would really like to hear how you get on if you go with the QX keep us posted. If the QX is such a good deal would it not be worth buying it, giving it a whirl & if it fails to live up to expectations ebay it on for what you paid for it?

Yeah, well, you are kind of getting to me saying that I "will be the first one to put a QX in that board hint hint". Problem is, E8500 would still cost me less than half, and my spendings increased badly lately. I guess I will think about it a little bit more, look around for overclocks of QX9650 may beWill keep you guys updated and join you when I get my board with one CPU or the other.

I think its fair to point out that everyones view on stability is different, some are happy it goes in windows & some like me are a touch on the pedantic side & like to beat hardware up to prove a point to myself. Lets for the sake of the argument say were taking Prime95 as our must pass test.
I think you need to find a stable OC or set yourself a must pass target for stability. I personally like 1 full loop of prime from the start 1024k right through to 4096k about 9 1/2 hours as my must pass minimum. Having said that even that will fail Linpack 8/10 times & on very rare cases fall over in 3DMARK but a little more voltage has pretty much always sorted things out.
I am fairly sure I don't have to tell you how to overclock but for the threads sake you need to stabilise something & work up from there. I would suggest backing the CPU fsb down & jacking the ram divider up first to find out where your RAM gives up. Then back down the RAM to 333/667 & jack up the fsb a little & stability test using apps like Prime95. Dont forget Prime95 can be run with custom fft's to help pinpoint where work is needed. You don't need to wait 45 mins till Prime fails at the end of 10k when you can set prime up to start at 10K.
As for your settings, everyones system runs differently sure we can all advise things that worked for us but please bear in mind they wont necessarily work for you.
