    Shanghai 45nm K10.5 launches on the 13th

    Finally

It is finally fixed, after long wait we can confirm that Shanghai 45nm Quad core, 45nm part comes out on the 13th.

AMD is ready to announce these chips with up to 2.7GHz frequency with its partners while the faster parts are expected in early 2009. Shanghai should focus on virtualisation, something that is very important for servers and it should be a decent match to Core 2 Quad based Xeons, Harpertown at least at similar clock but we still strongly believe that Nehalem based Xeons at same clock will end up faster.

AMD will play lets sell them cheaper strategy and it will hope to win but its been more than a year since AMD had a competitive product in server market. AMD Shanghai Opteron should consume less power than Nehalem and this will also be one of the sale points.

First reviews are expected on Thursday.

Pick one up? At that price, no thanks. The lowest-end 2-way part costs 50% more than low-med 65nm parts.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

It's the price jacking that always happens with new products. In a week or two it should get down to recommended prices.

My response in one sentence or less, LOL:

I hope that rumor about AMD releasing Deneb at the end of the month is true because it would be great for AMD to be 2+ months ahead of schedule to shake off that dark cloud of delays that has been looming over their head these last few months (run on sentences FTW!).

Besides, server parts are more expensive than desktop parts, despite the identical CPU.

even with the launch, AMD is in a pile of poopy.....it still leaves them at about 2 intinerations behind Intel...

i was reading this review when it hit me hard square in the face:

    http://www.lostcircuits.com/mambo//i...1&limitstart=0

Micheal would never fudge figures, Intel's only competition is with several of their OWN intinerations of different CPU's.....I am AMD through and through have been for 17 or so years, dabbled with Intel a bit in the past, but one does not have to hit me very hard on da head to realize the gap is HUGE....

What is my next rig gonna be, LOL< I think it is obvious>

    Laterzzzzz......................
    Asrock 970 Extreme4, Vishera 8320 @4.6Ghz, 1.39v, 16 gig Gskill RipJaws X DDR3 2133 @2284, OCZ 700w, OCZ Vetex 4 256gb boot, ATI 6850, all on big air..

It looks very competitive in the selected applications while consuming much less power. I'd say this is a win.

I won't have my dual 1207 server ready for another six weeks anyway, so I'll see if prices look good on SANE websites like Newegg. That Canadian store is overcharging quite a lot even for current products, so things may actually be promising for good prices like we all have expected.

Hmm my current cinebench score at about 3.3+ghz is about 10,000

    this Opteron is hitting

    Bench: Cinebenc 10
    AMD Opteron 2384: 19357 2.7ghz
    Intel Xeon L540: 19997
    AMD Opteron 2356: 15372

at 2.7ghz are these scores comparable? because if they are that is a huge increase in performance at 600mhz less

you could then say if performance between deneb and shanghai are similar that Deneb at 1350mhz would give about 10,000 points? which in turn is equal to agena at 3.3+ghz?

    Intel Xeon L540: 19997
    AMD Opteron 2356: 15372

at 2.7ghz are these scores comparable? because if they are that is a huge increase in performance at 600mhz less

you could then say if performance between deneb and shanghai are similar that Deneb at 1350mhz would give about 10,000 points? which in turn is equal to agena at 3.3+ghz?

somebody correct me if Im wrong?
those results are from a dual socket systems

don't know for sure, but that score may be for two opterons, even so, if you split it by two there's still the 600MHz difference for about the same result, that's still a really nice bump.

just speculating due to the result values (that's what makes sence to me).

    damn so many responded.
