best adhesive remover

Hey,

So i decided to remove the sticker off the side of my PSU, as i couldn't stand staring at it any longer, and i couldn't bare to let the sticker hide the gunmetal mirror finish that was lurking underneath.

The issue i have is that, while the sticker is off, there is a great deal of adhesive residue left from the sticker, and I was wondering what the best approach would be to take the adhesive off. I.E. which solvents? maybe a secret home remedy? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Try isopropyl alcohol

I almost forgot about my good friend Isopropyl!! I went down to the local supermarket after reading your post and remembering that that's what I use to clean AS-5 whenever I'm re-mounting my block, and picked some up. If i can find a camera I'll try and post some pics of my stripped PSU. Its nice and shiny gunmetal chrome now! Thanks!

Naptha (sp?) (zippo lighter fluid for the old wick style lighters) works well for dissolving sticker residue....just try it in an inconspicuous spot first if you can....I haven't had any problems as of yet though.

gasoline, or pretty much any petroleum distillate should work for that too, thats all the goof off stuff is

SO here are the results by using Isopropyl alcohol, then polishing with microfiber.

The best remover By FAR is a product called GOO Gone if all else fails and you cannot find it Use Wallpaper Remover Seriously it kills alcohol I still use alcohol when I do not have the provided materials ive listed but if makes easy work of it.


GOO GONE and Wallpaper Remover are usually the same except GOO Gone is more expensive

i had customers that ruined their case paintjobs
trying to remove coffee stains with strong solvents
when all it needed was some plain water

for every stain or residue there is always a right cleaner
but because we can't know in advance
its better to proceed gradually and with caution

you should start off with plain warm soap-water
if it persists, move on to something stronger like a glass cleaner
then alcohol
then gasoline-petroleum
then lighter fluid
and when you want to clean a bare metal surface you may proceed to acetone
then nitrus solvent
then graffiti remover sprays

if its still there...
get sourself a sander and bring it down to the ground...

Try some oil, cooking, frying whichever. I've just had to remove many cable tie holders on my case and the sticky adhesive sticks to the case madly! Once I had removed the big stuff I just dipped my finger in oil and rubbed it in and left it for an hour or two and then came back and wiped it away. Also helped me remove the sticky glue from my 775 backplate on the bottom of my motherboard. It also helped me remove stickers too. Just rub down into the sticker and leave it for a bit then when you it off it should come off easily, unless it hasn't soaked down to the adhesive.

I was going to agree with alcohol. Also, rubbing it off with a cotton cloth seems to work pretty well, for me at least.

whatever you do don't use that citrus goo- gone.. that stuff is horrible
