Ok, I getting desperate now ... somehow !
I just realized that all OC wonīt work as soon as I put my second RAM on.
    These are my RAMs
But I donīt have a clue why they wonīt want to be clocked.
As long as I have only one of them onboard ... everything is fine... but as soon as I put the second onboard I get one BSOD after the another.
It seems that no setting ( none that I tried ) effects my stability.

    CPU : QX9650 - graphic 4870X2

    My settings so far :
    FSB : 400
    CPU Clock Skew: Auto
    NB Clock Skew: Auto
FSB Strap to North Bridge: AUTO
    PCIE Frequency: 100
    DRAM Frequency: 1600Mhz
    DRAM Command Rate: auto
DRAM Timing Control: Manual ( 7-6-5-15- all the rest auto )
    DRAM Static Read Control: disabled
    DRAM Dynamic Write Control: disabled
    DRAM Skew Control

DRAM CMD Skew on Channel A: Auto ( tried 50 delay )
DRAM CLK Skew on DIMM A1: Auto
DRAM CLK Skew on DIMM A2: Auto
DRAM CTL Skew on DIMM A1: Auto
DRAM CTL Skew on DIMM A2: Auto
DRAM CMD Skew on Channel B: Auto ( 100 delay )
DRAM CLK Skew on DIMM B1: Auto
DRAM CLK Skew on DIMM B2: Auto
DRAM CTL Skew on DIMM B1: Auto
DRAM CTL Skew on DIMM B2: Auto

    Ai Clock Twister: auto
    Ai Transaction Booster: Auto
( I tried with loosen PL and light Twister )

    EPU II Phase Control: Auto
    CPU Voltage: 1.27
    Load-Line Calibration: Disabled
    CPU PLL Voltage: 1.6
    FSB Termination Voltage: 1.3
    CPU GTLVerf (0): +50mv
    CPU GTLVerf (1): +50mv
    CPU GTLVerf (2): +50mv
    CPU GTLVerf (3): +50mv
    NB GTLVerf: +60mV
    North Bridge Voltage: 1.51
    DRAM Voltage: 1.86
    NB DDRVref: auto
    DDR3 ChannelA Vref: auto
    DDR3 ChannelB Vref: auto
    South Bridge 1.5 Voltage: 1.6
    South Bridge 1.05 Voltage: 1.06
    CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled

I also played a lot with the GTLs ( cause I first thouht it would be the CPU )
I raised NB to 1,6V - no effect.

Temps are all in safe areas ... got a hughe wc.

So if anybody got a clue how I can use all of my 4GB Ram I would be more than pleased. - The whole testing allready ruined my raid0 ... ( allthough in Memtest - with a good old floppy-disk - ran through without any error ! )

Tight timing. Change to default overclocking levels and then get tigher:

    Overclocking Setting 1: nF790i: 2000MHz 9-9-9-28 1.9Volt
Up your CPU voltage to 1.35

    Forget about skewing for now.

I'm having some difficulty with the same processor as well but I'm getting there...slowly

I also tried very lose timing like 9-9-9-25-2t but no change.
The CPU voltage didnīt change anything ( also I know my CPU from my Maximus Extreme - it runs til 4GHz with 1,2V ( effective Volts inclusive V-droop ).

The problem is that it is no biggie to clock with only one dimm.... easy as stealing a babies lollipop - but as soon as I put my second dimm back on its place, my rigg brings BSOD just like hell.
    And the kicker is :
Memtest runs without any errors !

Put the Ram in the White slots - made a big difference for me and many here.

try lowering your Dram Frequency to 1334. Just to see if it will run properly.

    Frequency on standard FSB : 333 & Mem 1333 runs !
But as soon as rise the FSB only a few MHz (e.g. FSB 350MHz ) => Bluescreen !

    edit:
    Back with FSB 400 & Mem 1334 : runs too !

Hey Smooth!! I've got that ram as well, however mine are GTS. White slots only, 8 8 8 18 72 8 6 is about as tight as I could go @ 1N. (1760) Plus you might have to up the Volts to the ram & the NB. With Bios 601 I ran the Ram skews Normal Normal Advance 250 Normal Normal for both A2 & B2. Gtl's All Auto & Vrefs NB +12.5, Ch A, Ch B +50 My ram liked the volts thrown at it, 2.0V min for stability@ 1N. Hope this helps

Hope you guys can help an ol' grandma out. My Rampage Extreme ran fine for a couple of days - QX9650, 4870x2, and G-Skill PC12800 (2 x 2 GB) - only one stick installed, currently at BIOS 501. It crashed last night and couldn't get it to go past the multiple power up/ fans on, hang cycle. This happened after I replaced the video card with a second 4870X2 (so only had one card in). Tried the second BIOS - no luck. Took the battery out overnight and, lo and behold, it was working okay this morning.

Couldn't leave well enough alone, so decided to do a fresh install of Vista 64-bit. Have been at it all morning, and can't complete the install. Get the error "Windows has detected a problem and needs to restart" (or something like that). I've read this entire thread and have googled my eyes out. I've set my memory timings to default and experimented with a few other settings, but nothing major. Any recommendations for me?

I may not be ready to play with the Big Boys, and can still return the board to Newegg (less the 15% restocking fee) if it turns out just to be too much for me But, I'd like to keep it, and would be grateful to any advice you may have.

Hi Think ... These are the settings I used ... based on a post in the ASUS Support forums:

    Core v to 1.2
    Core PLL to 1.5

    Memory to 1600

    Memory timings 7-7-7-18
    Mem Voltage to 1.85

Couldn't get through the install. Then set Memory to 1333, and got through the install. Was able to load drivers, connect to the net, and am now downloading Windows Updates. Fingers crossed. Then we'll see what happens when I try the new 4870X2 again (currently have an 8800GTX installed).

Any other settings I should be putting in manually at this point? Trying to get it stable before trying any OC'ing.

Well - all was good with the Vista 64-bit install, and everything was fine running the 8800GTX card. Tried the new 4870X2 and it borked my board again ... exact same symptoms as last night. Tried to CLR CMOS, reset jumper to second BIOS, and board would not run, even with the 8800GTX back instead of the 4870X2. So now, trying the "unplug, remove the battery, and let it sit" fix.

Don't know if I have a bad 4870X2, or just something I need to set in the BIOS? My other 4870X2 runs fine with this board. Only difference is it is water cooled, so don't know if there is an issue with the fan control on the new card?

Don't mean to clutter up this OC thread with my basic issues, so I'll start a new thread in the Video section. But hoping someone here might have a clue.

EDIT: Put the battery back in after an hour, and now I'm up and running again with the 8800GTX. Will try the other 4870X2 tomorrow when I set up the water cooling loop again. Maybe I'll also try flashing a newer BIOS.

Very similar system other then the Mushkin Rams that I'm having a hell of time to reach 480 x 9 at 1600mhz. Keep me posted. I would like to see your stable bios layout ( Prime PASSED and OCCT passed and least )

    As promised : I am back !
I was nearly going mad... but I was obsesive enough to continue.
All the tipps and hints were not effective.

The major trick did a negative NB-GTL !
That is very wierd cause I havenīt seen anybody going with a negative NB-GTL.

So here are my settings ( so far ) :

    FSB 400 / Mem 1600 @ 7-6-5-14-1N

    CPU Voltage: 1.30
    Load-Line Calibration: enabel
    CPU PLL Voltage: 1.51
    FSB Termination Voltage: auto
    CPU GTLVerf (0): auto
    CPU GTLVerf (1): auto
    CPU GTLVerf (2): auto
    CPU GTLVerf (3): auto
    NB GTLVerf: -45mV
    North Bridge Voltage: 1.40
    DRAM Voltage: 1.91
    NB DDRVref: auto
    DDR3 ChannelA Vref: +25mV
    DDR3 ChannelB Vref: +25mV
    South Bridge 1.5 Voltage: auto
    South Bridge 1.05 Voltage: auto
    CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled

My next stepp will be to go for the CPU-GTLs to get LLC disabled cause as soon as I disable LLC I get a enormous Vdrop & Vdroop which I can not compensate with a plus on Vcore. When I give more than 1,33V on Vcore - Iīll get a BSOD ... when I give 1,3 I got a Vdrop of about 0,07V and a Vdroop 0,1V and so Prime is crashing in return ... no wonder cause there is only 1,1V left of 1,3Vcore !

If the ending stable result you have is :

    480 x 8.5 1601mhz or 400 x 10 at 1601 mhz then what should one postulate to try and stabilize 480 x 9 or 490 x 8.5

    Memory or CPU?

My Memory should reach 2000MHz according CSX ... but I just gave a shoot into the blue with 1800Mhz : nearly came on the Desktop
I think there is a lot of finetuning necessary... and this costs time ... and sadly this is what I donīt have at the moment.

    My CPU allready reached 4,9GHz ( 10,5 x 465MHz@1,5V ), but this was on my Maximus Extreme and with a Cellshock 1800 2GB-Kit ( 2 x 1 GB ).

My conclusion is that it is a lot more difficult to get those 4GB-Kit that far ... or I am too stupid.

And thats also my reply to Turbodream !

2x2 GB is always preferrable to 4x1 GB when overclocking, if possible. two sticks of memory put less strain on the MCH and allow you to OC further.

Yup, they will do 2000 mhz but not with great timings like a 2 x 1 kit. I liked them a little lower @ 1N!! Mine are the GTS. If I remember correctly I was just over 2V.

Does the Everest benchmark runs for a very long time? On my PC wiht 8GB of ram and Vista Ultimate 64 bit it starts but so far I never seen the benchmark finish.
