Yeah, I think two of my drives are poo. I backed up most of my stuff, just trying to get the time to sort it. Where do you get the FW for seagate drives? My controller FW is at 4.12. I will get the FW and model #s for the drivers tomorrow.

    Hitachi 5400 rpm 1.5 Sata 250 GB 33% full

    HD Tune: Hitachi HTS542525K9S Benchmark

    Transfer Rate Minimum : 27.2 MB/sec
    Transfer Rate Maximum : 58.9 MB/sec
    Transfer Rate Average : 44.1 MB/sec
    Access Time : 17.5 ms
    Burst Rate : 74.8 MB/sec
    CPU Usage : 53.1%

I can't post images for some reason.

I decided against the 30 gb ssd, I haven't the ching for 2 for a raid, and the battery savings for my laptop is only 7% from what I read, so I can't justify it like that if it didn't speed up my OS at home tons...thanks for this thread, it's nice to see what what's out there.

I'm waiting on a WD Black 640, I took the chance hoping it's as fast the Cavier, I'll post results if I can figure out how to install sata on my Gigabyte 780 board.

seagate does not offer their firmware's online, i believe you have to go through tech support

    Hey, that's cheating!

The title says "HARD drives", not drives that you configured from your ram.

    My RAM is "HARD".

Hard drive world is changing, no longer just magnetic disks. Solid state drives are becoming more common along with lots of RAM, enabling RAM drives that are big enough to be useful. It's just posted for reference anyway.

No, can't boot from it but it is automatically loaded on boot so that in all other ways it looks like a hard drive to the system. You can put any apps on it, just not the OS. Much like iodrive right now until their firmware update (but faster than iodrive ).

Yeah, just won't be bootable. Try acard, it's DDDR2 based and supposedly bootable. Just doesn't have fibre like RAMSAN.
