OMG project 4418 is brutal! 15 points and takes my t7100 2.5 hours! That's ~150 PPD from a 1.8ghz dual core. My single core opty did more than that...

That's the cache you're missing on that chip, nothing you can do about it. And to quote someone pretty famous around here, 'Whatever you bring, it's enough'

It EUE'd 60% into it. Now I've got another 2665. I'm only folding on this (my laptop) for the race and to help hold off Whoopass (which apparently we are...easily!)

    Umm... what's this:

    Code:
[20:34:14] Client config found, loading data.
    [20:34:14] mdrun_gpu returned
    [20:34:14] NANs detected on GPU
    [20:34:14]
    [20:34:14] Folding@home Core Shutdown: UNSTABLE_MACHINE
    [20:34:18] CoreStatus = 7A (122)
    ?

Never happened to me before, it didn't even start to fold and ran into EUE limit. Closed the client and now it's doing fine again... client hiccup?

Could be an unstable overclock. Which project was it working on?

Quit 101 - Fatal error: NaN detected: (ener[xx])

Quit 101 - Fatal error: NaN detected: (ener[xx])
    ...snip...
    Folding@home Core Shutdown: EARLY_UNIT_END

    xx can be 0, 11, 12, 13, 18, 20, or perhaps other values.

From Gromacs.org: The error comes from coordinates being NaN (not a number). The physical reason for this is that particles come too close to each other.
The most frequent cause of this error is an unstable CPU, which causes incorrect results to be inserted into the simulation. This is turn can result in molecules being reported in different (wrong) positions sometimes manifesting itself in this error.
    http://fahwiki.net/index.php/EUE_Types

MaK is right could be unstable oc but also a bad wu, some wu's just break sooner then others Need more info

Oh it's by no means unstable, it ran for days at these clocks without any problem (standard EUE is one per day maybe, so one in 23). And it's folding now again. What got me thinking is that it didn't even start to fold, it stopped before...

    That's the log:

I just realised that I could have answered the question myself by really looking at the log, it choked on this WU: Project: 5506 (Run 2, Clone 278, Gen 164). Lol.

I was just a bit startled because I never saw a WU behave this way..

Well, last time I reported a bad SMP WU this particular WU was out for months and reportedly no one was ever able to complete it, so I guess no one at PG cares about such reports anway.

Those are bad wu's. Sorry took me awhile, had some pm's there which were important to I didn't paste the link as quick as I could. But judging from your smillies I think you were already aware of the project issues so I'm carrying water to the ocean

    *Edit.

I missed the two above posts as this reply was open while I was handling my pm's there.

They actually rely on the reports badly. It's true their collection servers will know it eue'd but it does not send with it the log content, only the wu results, and an identifier who's account it was folded on. So most of the time it's the reports from the john doe's like us which enable them to pin point a particular issue going wrong. I am willing to report issues like this for you if you're not having the time for it or don't feel like it, just pm the logfile and I relay it, don't forget whe're doing this for a good cause

If you think it really does something then the log excerpt is in my post above, I'm just not as optimistic about this as you. I'm just wondering what would happen if I had a really big GPU farm... I think it would need baby sitting around the clock.

yeah it's disappointing to see a wu get reported over and over and never get pulled... that used to tick me off.. just one of those PG disappointments I've learned to accept as normal. it's sad sometimes.

that's why I'm not to disciplined about reporting them anymore. though I still do occasionally.

Done. And I can't answer the last question with anything other then... it takes abit of devotion, but as Mike says they do know most people do not watch their clients as closely, What I said was only to try and make that percentage who does report spotten problems abit bigger.
