The good thing with that res you can just have two firefox windows open side by side if you want instead of having to full screen, or firefox and mediaplayer, etc
You could also adjust your icons and text to be a little bigger if you feel a bit of strain trying to read.

Congrats on your purchase, I am still using a Samsung 955DF 19" CRT for my computer and I have to run my desktop at 1152x864 @ 85hz any higher and it just doesnt seem right to my eyes (refresh rate wise) 1600x1200 requires 60hz and I just cant handle that.

I am torn between getting a 22" or 24"... maybe one of those 37" 1080p westinghouses I've seen around for $600 hehe

Well, I got the Samsung T240 today.........

Never thought that I would say this but.......holy smack! This LCD monitor has a great image quality compared to my (well, 8 year old) Mitsubishi 22" CRT.

I played NFS_MW and the reflection on the car was amazing, like mirror glass.

Problem? The resolution, 1900x12000 is huge and the monitor itself is huge as well, I was getting used to the 1280x1024, but now? I have to open FF3 and sort of minimize it to the center of the pic, otherwise it'd be too big to read.

So far I'm happy, not bad for $400 and $10 for a 4 year warranty.

BTW, as a macho man that I am, I did not read the manual and all this time I'm trying to figure out where the on/off button was and guess? lower right hand corner of the bezel...touch on & off.

Why do you have three routers?

One is the Cable Modem, then I bought a Firewall router and about 3 weeks later, I signed up with Vonage, so they sent me the VoP router which has the telephone ports to connect the phone line to my house......
That's how I end up with all 3 units, only two are routers and I own the cable modem and firewall router and the VoP router belongs to Vonage. I have had Vonage since Feb 2005 and I'm fricking happy with it, I've saved over $1,000 in telephone bills probably since then.

Those Samsung ToC monitors are just fricking great! I luv mine......But! if you have the room for a 26"? That's even better. I didn't have the room for a 26", so I had to get the 24" and even that, the 24" is huge IMO. Coming from a 22" (20" viewable) CRT.

The ToC are guaranteed to have ZERO dead pixels, and with the 3 year warranty? Can't go wrong with these.
Now, you have too look that there's a difference in the contrast ratio between the monitor and the hdtv monitor, the monitor is 20K:1 and the hdtv monitor is 10K:1........don't exactly know what the main or major difference is or "IF" there is besides the technical specs but, you should look into that IMO.

I'd recommend the Samsung ToC, I'm very happy with it and I think for the price it's an excellent monitor and no deal pixels guaranteed. I also like it because it uses only 55w total.

My 2nd choice overall was the ASUS, seems like it has a bunch of tech stuff to make the screen more vivid and all that fancy stuff but the main problem is that it consumes 130W and that was a major draw back....


BTW, if you're going to hook up the monitor to the PC? Don't use the HDMI cable, it's annoying to get the message on the screen every 10 seconds about adjusting the res to 1920x1200........I used a DVI to HDMI cable and swapped it out for the DVI-to-DVI, both Monster Cable and now I don't get the message anymore on the screen.


I'm luving my Samsung and for those that will get one? I'm sure you'll luv it too, saves you $$$ on electricity too, only 55W of power consumption.

I just bought a new Dell 2408WFP, rev.A01. Couldn't be happier. I was very worried after reading reports of poor input lag, backlight bleed and off colours on one side, but mine is just fantastic. Direct comparison to my old Samsung 226BW (praised at launch as having good input lag and response time) revealed no noticeable lag, even hooked up an old 19" CRT and ran in clone mode with the two screens side by side (the LCS was obviously not running native res)- no noticeable delay at all. The colours on the Dell are simply amazing, much better than my old Samsung, probably due to the non-TN panel, and the contrast is great, although the Dynamic Contrast setting sucks big time.

In short, it's expensive, but very much worth it.

I'd really like a 24" to be able to playback 1080p video and that Acer is the cheapest 24" I have found, I have read quite a few reviews about it and I know it's not the greatest panel but I am coming from a Samsung 955DF 19" Crt that is not as crisp and bright as it used to be 6-7 years ago.

My cousin has the 20" Acer X203wbd and from the times I've used it I would be perfectly happy with a panel of that size, resolution and "quality"

The 20" BenQ looks decent for the price, and the 22"/20" Samsungs look good also.

I am looking at cheaper TN panels, I don't need MVA, PVA or IPS although I would love one eventually. I just need to get off this dim and dark CRT soon.
I game, watch videos, occasionally do some casual photo/video editing, and pretty much a little of everything.

About the review comment, be it on a forum or a hardware site they usually are not done the same way and with the same set of eyes.
In my opinion buying a monitor is a crapshoot just like buying fast food fries.
I've seen people sing the world about a certain panel and others dump on it like it's the worst product out there. I have read a lot of review sites and I have spent more time on multiple forums wading through pages and pages of threads than I care to admit.

This decision would be so much easier if I didn't live hours away from stores where I can compare them in person.
The only retail store near me that has more than 3-4 monitors have them all running through a terrible KVM switch and there are 1440x900, 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 panels all running from the same computer with a mix of DVI and analog input so it really doesn't help.
I will get the monitor I like best once I figure out what one I like best, it really all comes down to personal opinion I guess.

Its all subjective. What looks good to me, may not look good to you and vice versa.

If you want a monitor that YOU like, do the legwork and the research.

Use tom's hardware. They seem to have a good review section.
