sounds more like the usual thing your running with unstable ram , most likely to tight a tRD , especially if left on auto. what ddr3 voltage are you running ??
I'll give you an example. I ran 4.0Ghz @1.224 for 4 hours, did a little surfing afterwards, left the computer on all night and then rebooted, went into the BIOS to start bumping it up a little more and it said I had an overclocking failure. It's completely random like that.
My OCZ platinum is rated 1.8v and that's what I run it at. I loosened the timings from 7-7-7720 to 9-9-9-24 to see if I could get any higher than 4.3. Might be the tRD is too tight, what do you think? It is on auto.
Also no one mentioned if they thought that my vdrop/vdroop is too much.BIOS is set to 1.4, CPU says 1.36 in Windows and 1.328 under load. Doesn't that seem like an awful lot?

there's too much difference between these two Extreme boards,

trfc does look low by the way, try 55 as your base
    as for your vdrop/vdroop
hicookie has posted a vdroop mod for the P45T-Extreme, it's in the linked thread

    Hi all!
I recently bought the EP45 Extreme along with the E8600 CPU. I have serious problems with my overclock.
I cannot get 500FSB x 10 mult. The highest I have gone is 4.7GHz (523*9) after that the computer almost does not start (I can see the system restart several times even before reahing the BIOS screen). Nothing over 523FSB works... I tried 523*10 but no luck...

I have tried increasing the FSB, lower it, change the multipel, Vcore, MCH core and some other voltage tweaks in BIOS.

My system: EP45 Extreme with water cooling.
    F7 bios. 4GB PC8500 (1066MHz)
    E8600 CPU. (water cooled)
    Nvidia 8800GTS (512mb) - also tested with ATI 3850.

I appreciate any help and hints!

i got a nice board on my hands here

just testing quick FSB and settings which were spotty on air cooling at 600+ FSB are flying on LN2

i am just doing 640MHz FSB dual core dual channel 8M Superpi
booted at 620>jumped to 630 and now 640

    freaking sweet board this one

Sorry to revive the thread but I just got one of these to play around for a while (DDR2 version).

How much better those zillions power phases for CPU, NB and Ram work for the OC then the UD3P? I have some WR on the UD3P I hope I could go higher on the EXTREME

it seems that its all board dependant

my Extreme boards are both much better than UD3P to be honest

Interesting Dinos, did all of your EXTREME perform the same?

Did you use the integrated watercooling for the NB, MOSFET and SB? I have a cheap WC system that i could use just for that for some benches...

I think vtt limit on Extreme board is 1.8v as it on my T-Extreme. The DQ6 has higher around 1.9xx I think. Btw they all dont have LLC though..need some mod.
I think I got limited by vtt at 560x9 on Q9650. 1.78v-1.8v got freezing windows.

    Thanks guys!

Hey Sparda well done there with your Q9650.

I wonder what are the sweet spots for the References and the Quad 9650 in this board.

What settings you use with 1.20vtt for Cpu Ref, Cpu Ref 2 and Mch Ref?

    I use at 1.2v vtt - cpu ref 1 : 0.82v - 0.865v ; cpu ref 2 : .85v - .875v ; mch ref : 0.775v - 0.805v.

It only works on my second chip Batch L825B325 vid 1.235. But it doesn work on my third chip Batch L825B338 vid 1.235.
Probably just because the third chip itself sucks. Cant even hold 4.5Ghz stable.

This board is driving me nuts! The UD3P much more reliable on the GTL fine tuning.

With your GTL settings I can't even get it to post, the CPU Ref1, Ref 2, and MCH Ref are too high for me I think.

I then get it small FTTs stable for an entire day, next day same settings Core 2 fails with 0 minutes (Fatal Error 0.5 less then 0.4 error)... Always the same Core, same error. The other cores will run normally without any errors. I cannot duplicate stability on this board.

    What skews your running? 1000 -1000 - 0 - 50?

    Thanks!

i got success with extreme boards but firstly manually setting bios given GTL Ref in bios before i changed any settings what that does is locks in a ratio for REF values once you start to pump volts

i also found that keeping NB volts a bit higher than VTT was good (reference will change automatically once VTT value is changed in bios)

    Dinos22
    I see Dinos.

Do you have the DMM measuring points for this board?

I do set the Cpu Refs and the MCH manually for 1.20vtt and then raise vtt.

Thing is on ET6 says it reads 1.20vtt on boot so my Refs are 0.760, 0.800 and 0.760 for 1.20vtt but it fails Core 1 in 0 minutes.
    I played with those a lot but it starting to not make sense. I also tried Spardas Refs for 1.20vtt (cpu ref 1 : 0.82v - 0.865v ; cpu ref 2 : .85v - .875v ; mch ref : 0.775v - 0.805v) and no luck too.

Problem is that in the UD3P once I got the first day to figure these out it would play nicelly with any fsb, vtt and multi.

This board is giving me stability one day and then fails next day with same settings. I guess I have to play around these a little more.

Different chip different settings. The basic settings probably the same though. I use 1000 -1000 - 0 - 0. idk my T-Extreme is just POS without the vdroop mod. Quite a lot of vdroop on quad. Set 1.2k on the vdroop mod fix the problem.

Yeah I know Sparda and you are right I'll get that done first, voltages fluctuation from 1.35-1.41 can't be good for Prime95

    512x8.5 4352Mhz 1.36vcore 5:6 Strap DDR2@1230Mhz

I'm finally getting somewhere, thanks for the info guys. My board liked Cpu Refs one less then stock and MCh on stock.

Now I have to raise FSB and lower Voltages (un-tweaked volts on Vnb, Vdimm):

My god guys, this board is a serious piece of equipment! I received it last weekend as a replacement for my Asus P5E dlx, as my E0 Q9550 was hitting an fsb wall at 470mhz on that board. From reading different sites, it seemed that the EP45-extreme and 45nm quads were made for eachother, and my initial results certainly confirm this:

This is fully prime (blend and small FFTs) stable and nor 3dmark nor my games have shown any problems so far, so I am definitely flabbergasted by how easy it was to reach this! I didnt even touch skews or reference voltages, just set the voltages of my cpu from my old setup for 4Ghz, raised vNB to 1.36 and it's been running smoothly ever since. Benching my HD4850s in CF has been going really well too, hitting 14914 points in 3dmark vantage and 22423 points in '06!

Thanks to the good info on this page, getting started on this board has been a breeze and I wanted to thank you guys for that! Now its time to press on to the magic 533, I can only dream of running this cpu at 4,5Ghz!

Yeah they are fun, since my old post I got the hang of the board and I could use the Q9650@4900Mhz for daily use on Domino water cooling system with some mods .
