yes (unless one pot can contact both X2 cores)...but the X2 is not part of the competition...i just want to make sure my new blocks work with the X2's as well as the 4850's.

i will have an X2 this weekend to check out all the surface components to be avoided by the blocks.

also i should be able to post a workable design up for everyone to be able to make

you are right in P45 OC contest, but what are you planed for Freestyle contest ? can we use our P45 OC contest in freestyle ? I need corsair Dominator memory from the first contest.

i just want to make sure my new blocks work with the X2's as well as the 4850's.
as I understand, they are different and I should build different pots for them. is it true ?

if i recall all the kit from the p45 oc contest will be available for the freestyle event as well...also you may contact GB if there is anything special you need for the freestyle event.

the blocks i'm designing now will work for most cards...recent nvidia ones, ati ones, crossfire if you have two of them...and will also fit the X2 (possibly a separate holddown will be needed for the X2).
they will not fit with SLI if the slots have only one empty slot between the cards...they are too big to fit tri-sli
i will post full design pictures in a short while...hopefully some constructive comments from the top guns here can be put to good use

ok here is the design...any and all comments welcome...please bare in mind this is not yet final as we'll only be checking the naked X2 this weekend.
i'm not wild about the mounting design but it should work and we couldn't think of something better while still getting as much mass in.
surface area is over 150cm2 and for a modern gpu block it will be heavy.
the holddown for the X2 is not ready and may not be needed at all...it depends what might be in the way on the X2 pcb.

why you don't want to use default Base hold down ? in this picture shows that it seems enough strong ( picture dedicated to 4850)

    ARH - i can't see your link
that holdown on the drawing sits between the block and the card....there is no backplate
the idea is to not have to remachine the block every time someone changes mounting hole spacings

it has been dry ice tested on an 8800ultra but i think this block will have to be narrowed to miss the capacitor on the standard 4850:
can anyone get the dimension indicated in the pic (horizontal distance between the centre of the mount bolt and the edge of the capacitor indicated)...scuze the quality :P

An article from the Swedish final:

    http://www.techsweden.org/index.php?view=IEOLBJ

It's in swedish, but many pictures.

The contest was to overclock an QX9650 as high as possible and verify the "stabilty" with Pi 4M (The time don't matter).

It's not like you'll have to pay for the flight and hotel yourself. $5K USD isn't exactly bad when you can do whatever you want with it. Not that everyone will receive that kind of money, but the worst thing that can happen is that you get a nice, paid experience.

do you sure that your card will not hurt without backplate ? why you wont use default backplate of the aircooler. (shown in the attachment)

seems no one have a 4850 card in this topic to help us for designing precise pot. I can access the one but at least in the weekend.

yes...i've not used a backplate on a gpu for years so i know its ok...but sure it looks like it will fit fine so it can work.
