Why did you go with Intel over AMD?

    Title says it all.

I figure, if you consider something like the AMD Phenom X4 9850BE pretty much equal with the Intel Q6600 for practically the same price, what was it that made you chose Intel over AMD?

When looking into it, it seems like the factors could include overclocking headroom, platform/motherboard superiority, and brand preference.

If there are other reasons, please by all means let's hear them!

I think this should provide for some interesting discussion.

easier to oc. better clock for clock for c2d.

quads are a different story, but for single threaded apps in particular i think intel wins.

much discussion on this topic can be found with many and varied siding with each side. i wouldnt say no to a 9850be

There's no option that explicitly says "better performance." (Overclocking is one part of performance )

I wish AMD would get it's act back together... getting an Intel rig was a really tough decision...
I would not talk about the 9850 and the Q6600 in the same sentence... The difference is roughly 10-15% off the bat, and when you start clocking the Q6600, there just no comparison.

A sort of semi related question, "Does Intel still have it in the mATX world?"

I say no. There is 1 mobo worth mentioning [zee Asus board] and the upcoming DFI P45 JR models are the price of a standard ATX board. AMD mATX boards come with a decent integrated video solution whilst Intel's boards come with their POS version.

So AMD mATX mobos are much cheaper and have more features.

ALL OF THE ABOVE TO THE POWER OF 10!

    Intel Rules!

Yes, overclocking is one part of the performance (like staryoshi pointed out) and therefore I have never been impressed with what Advanced Mediocre Devices has offered in that part of the field: http://www.overclockers.com.au/artic...?id=452447&P=4

Having only been here a short time, I have grown used to Nasgul's demeanor and am no longer bothered by it. Just so people know, I've never owned an AMD cpu in my entire life.

I got my PD820 because it was cheaper than an X2 3800+ (only Dual Core AMD at the time) by a lot... :p

I didn't go with one over the other. Both is the way to go! Intel for the pure clocks (this little L2 hot box impressed me at 3.6GHz) and AMD for the challenge (Phenom anyone?).

wasen't there a bug in all phenoms? I just figured it was time to go back to intel since it was better bang for the buck at the time. My last Intel system purchased (Besides my low voltage C2D Lenovo laptop) was a celly 300a.

I didn't vote on the overclocking, after all that's just the silver lining.

The real reason is that it comes down to one real important factor. Raw, seething power and performance!!!!

Compound that with the overclocking and the AMD is a great low priced, lower power also ran.

the platform is stronger, and intel wasnt stuck on junky NV chipsets and even worse ATI, so when via droped off there was nothing left to use on amd. and with intel making their own chipsets that seam to work as well as via with amd

and then the clock for clock advantage, and ocing are just to push it over

Better quality chips, more features, developer support, HIGHER PERFORMANCE CLOCK FOR CLOCK, oh and they do happen to overclock very well. Best Platform and Intelchipset, the list rattles on. I seriously do not know why anyone would buy AMD unless they were already on the AM2 platform and their board supported Phenom via a BIOS update

I was allways AMD never used a Intel system till a year or so. Purely from reading these forums and seeing the monstor clocks pple were getting on a Intel setup, I kept waiting and waiting for AMD to bring something back to us, but socket changes AM2 mainly with no real performance gains were the turning point for me.

We have a saying here , that noone is so rich to buy cheap things, but this country rules at it, to buy everything CHEAP as hell the cheaper the better and everything a bit more expensiver that theirs = Sock Bath !

I had Many CPU's Cyrix , AMD , Intel ... but i love the L2 Cache on C2D's and C2Q's, the smell of their plastick box , their ability to OC and the choice of boards. And I hate cheap things in general [ Yes, I'm opposing my whole "cheapy" country ] After long AMD streak Duron 700 [ fill 5 more AMD CPU's here ] to Athlon X2 4000, then I finaly got a nice work and could buy whatever I wanted not what ever my purse dictated to me, and Voila

Until AMD comes with a good board with a good layout good look and good CPU , for now i'll stay with Intel, and I want Nehalem , badly! .
Tbh X2 AMD series, those arent CPU's but local heaters with ability to count in binary and with Altzheimer, because they forgot their compute power somewhere [ CPU for poor or specific category of people that have PC's for music and internet, they don't need GHz's as much as we do ]
Phenoms X3 are X2 on steroids or Crippled Phenoms X4 , but I do admire the X4 Phenom series , I like the whole The only TRUE 4 Core CPU, If AMD had a black edition of a 3.4 ~ 3.6 GHz Phenom , I'd probably go and buy It and try it but now AMD has NOTHING to offer me.

For the same reason I went with AMD when their CPU's and platform were superior to Intel's.

I hope AMD can come back and be ahead again, that will drive Intel to be better and so on.

Only we can win when there is more than one player ... long live AMD and Intel.
