    Hell no
As long as you're increasing vcore through the special add function and keep the stock multiplier, you CPU's gonna clock itself down in idle and the mobo even lowers the Vcore. It also works using a different multiplier than stock, you just have to turn off one of the functions (EIST or C1E; I forgot which since I always need highest mult)

Good thing I got the dfi p35. It works fine on that one.
Edit: just went to dfi board and I guess there's a beta bios fix.. Anyone have a link to that?

The 07/25 BIOS fixes the 4870x2 issue for some users but most are still out of luck. The best thing to do right now is not to attempt to use a 4870x2 with any DFI board.

    Thanks Sniipe.
Well the 4870x2 seems to work on the dfi p35 board. If the x38 doesn't do it , the p35 will hold me over.

But i have 4gb of ram, will 1.4v nb really be enough?
The only reason i can hit an hour on prime was because i turned host slew rate to strong, i really dont feel like turning it back to weak!
Droop control is on, ive been told that it kills your cpu really quick if you turn it off or something...

::edit:: just tried 1.493 nb, 84 nb gtl... Windows wont boot, it even gives me the 'a recent hardware change might have been the cause' boot menu, the first time ive seen that one...changing the nb voltage to 1.555v and windows boots when the gtl is at 90 but it gives me funky messages like this one about windows activation service couldnt start and windows goes all 640x480 on me and stuff, or some host process has been closed and when i click on ok it gives me a bsod... i think that it simply needs 1.6v , no other way round that

Grrr might have a serious issue with my board now. Tried doing a bios flash update to the 6xx beta bios.... can't access my memory stick forgot the number. well lets just say all I get is a post code of 10. Which its trying to read the ram slots and nothing. Not sure if it was just a bad download or what but im stuck in the water.

Where can I get a replacement bios chip? Boy does this suck :/

Just to share my own overclocking experiences with 1 Q9450 and 2 QX9650s, they all had serious problems with stability over 440MHz FSB. Any chance at stability required potentially deadly VTT voltages around 1.5-1.6V.

To me it seems that most 45nm Quads has their FSB limit in that area...

No, it's not the quads, it's the mobo. Seems it sucks at 45nm Quad FSBs even more than with 65nm Quads. I am still struggling to get FSB 467 (--> 4,2Ghz) fully stable on my Q6600. 456x9 has been stable for days now though, using Bios 0603.
Even though I'll have to upgrade to 07XX as soon as I get my D9GKX mems, thanks again for pointing this out guys.

    could it be my bios?

maybe it has something to do with using a bios that was released before the q9450...
these are my latest settings to bring me to the 1-hour time limit

will try to use 1.330 vtt and tweak the gtls from there (i think that the cpu vtt also affects the nb gtl), and see if i can get to the 1 hour time limit as well... ive not tried a vtt that low yet, and the temps at 1.335 are much lower compared to 1.340

that cpu pll voltage looks very tempting to be increased, so far having it at 1.64v was the only way for me to get more than an hour of prime stability, its a shame that it will also destroy my cpu??

In the process of revamping my case with power, cooling and such. Is it truelly nessisary to have the floppy connectors hooked up to the mobo? Just seems odd that they'd have it on there, considering that the mobo should be capible of providing 150W to each port to begin with. Only reason I could see using them is if a quad core is in the board, just to lighten the load a little on the rest of the power consumption coming in. Someone correct me if im wrong. I always had them connected but it would be great if I didn't even have to consider putting them on.

Thats what I thought as well, think thats what it says in the manual if not mistaken. Just seems odd that no other mobo maker that I know (from what I've seen other than DFI) doesn't even have supplemental power onto the board feeding the slots.
