    Im Doing It =]

I have decided that im gonna try to paint my motherboard black and see what happens I heard it works and only get +1/c warmer... with some nice cooling and my new case being painted... i think this will turn out ok.

Wow, good luck. Ill look forward to seeing the results. Why didnt you just buy a black mobo in the first place. Asus make very good Black PCB motherboards for AMD systems aswell as Intel ones now. Then there is DFI also.

sounds like a bad idea to me, but i always get a smile when someone else kills their hardware for no good reason.

heres a guy that used a sharpie to do it lol

The reason i dont want to buy a pre-black one is because i want the sb750 chipset and im tired of waiting for dfi to make a black motherboard.. ive read around and some people have painted their motherboards and its turned out pretty good.

I allso read that a couple of people went to the nearest shop and bought another one because the painted was allready transfered to silicium heaven.

Ah I just noticed is an AMD board, GO for IT ! Paint it ! Wohoo

I painted a motherboard 3-4 years ago. It worked perfectly fine. Just mask off the bigger ICs on the board so they can expell heat. It would probably be a good idea to mask off all the connectors you need as well :p Also make sure you buy a non conductive paint. To test, spray some of the paint on a flat piece of metal and wait till it dries. Then use a multimeter to test resistance. If 0, you'll be good.]

Don't use a gloss paint, it really won't look good.

yeah i was gonna mask off a few areas that i think would get hot. =] Im thinking about using some flat black.. maybe like some primer

I hope you dont mean 0 ohms... That would be wicked conductive.

But yes, i would make sure the paint isnt conductive at all, if it is, even slightly, the board WILL fail. If you get anything below a megaohm or so, you might have a problem...

I've heard Black-colored motherboards run much faster than everything else. So are other black-colored components, like the black edition of that AMD 5000 for example. Also, a black colored Wolfdale is reportedly 35% FASTER than Nehalem? This is the reason why AMD's new Video card 4870x2 is using black pcb.

it's true. oversized copper heatsinks can also add another 15% speed to any piece of hardware.

not directly related but i think that having a layer of something between the exposed electrically conductive surfaces of the motherboard, and the air around it is a good idea, like i mean what happens if just a spec of metal floats into the case and lands between some exposed contacts of a chip or something
the paint has to have exactly the same electrical properties as air, like no conductivity and no capacitance, if a paint like this goes onto the board before all the airborne junk does then the board might actually last longer than if it was left exposed to air

LOL.. i tested it on a AM2 motherboard... just a $45 cheapy but i will put it into a nice case and see what happens if it turns out ok.. i will keep it or sell it then paint my AM2+ board
Im going to use a sharpie on the other spots so i can get as much black as possible without filling the slots with paint

Gotta admit, that black looks kind of cool. Perhaps when you're running you could use some black tape over the slots that will be visible (like in the third picture) for some extra eye candy? I would hope the Sharpie wouldn't be conductive (but I guess not if someone did their whole mobo with it, huh?)

@ unkn0wnhacka:That does look pretty good. What kind(and brand) of paint did you use.. and how many coats? I would suspect that the less coats the better.. but one probably wouldn't be enough.

Hmm, dunno but the board looks to me more like backed, or greased, Wouldn't it be better to cover more things with the tape , like the ATX connectors , the Capacitors around the Socket. Tbh It looks pretty Weird to me, but if you like it ..
